A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 397

Matilda felt like she had been in a deep slumber for ages, and when she finally awoke, the first thing she saw was Yvan's exhausted face.

Sensing her awakening, Yvan stirred too. Matilda grabbed his hand tightly, tears streaming down her face, murmuring, “Yvan... Yvan...”

Yvan thought for a moment that her memory had returned, but it turned out she was just caught in a nightmare. When she abruptly woke up again, she stared at Yvan with blank eyes, still the Matilda disconnected from her past. She let go of Yvan's hand, her body falling back onto the pillow heavily.

After a while, Matilda started to cry.

Her sobs were intermittent, clearly trying to suppress her voice, but unable to hold back. She didn't understand why she couldn't resist this overwhelming sadness.

Choking back tears, she said, “I don’t know why, I just feel so wronged...”

“I’ve suffered so much, probably in the past too, and it still continues... What does my life have to be like for it to finally leave me alone?”

Matilda closed her eyes, “Do I have to bleed out before I find peace... What kind of people are lurking around me? Mr. Boyd, can you tell me?”

The mention of "Mr. Boyd" seemed to ground Yvan back to reality.

Seeing Matilda in such an emotional wreck, all Yvan could do was to comfort her, “It’s okay now, you’re out of the Jungle Union. You won’t be taken back there again...”

“Jungle Union...”

Matilda repeated unconsciously, “Orson is still inside...”

Yvan sighed deeply. She had been through too much in a short time, and he feared for her mental state. This wasn’t the despair of the past; this was the result of facing danger after danger, her mind stretched to its limit until it could no longer hold.
