"Kill me, then!"
It felt like Declan had been hit with a blunt object, a prickling pain spreading throughout his body. He furiously tossed a couple of tubes of ointment at Chloe's face, her delicate features contorting with an indescribable emotion. Finally, he couldn't hold back his rage any longer and roared, "Get out! Take your damn ointment and get out! You ungrateful wretch, what the hell do you think you are!"
Chloe trembled once more under his harsh words, stirring a pain within Declan he couldn't quite understand...
Declan stormed up the stairs, later making a phone call to the housekeepers, instructing them to make sure Chloe got herself together before forcefully showing her the door. She was an eyesore.
Why on earth had he brought this disobedient woman back home, not once but twice? What was it about Chloe that made him care so much?
In a fit of frustration, Declan smashed the ashtray on his bedside table, startling the household staff into action. As they cleaned up the mess, they tried to soothe him, "Mr. Yeager, please, don't be angry... We'll send her away right now."
Sending her away.
Hearing those words from someone else made Declan irrationally irate. He kicked the wall hard, his rage seemingly having no outlet, his fists trembling with suppressed anger.
When Chloe left Declan's house, she was practically floating from weakness. Covered in bruises and battling a fever, she marveled at her own survival. Eventually finding a payphone, she used her last two coins to call Matilda.
"Matilda... help me..."
Hearing Chloe's voice, Matilda was shocked, quickly asking, "Where are you?!"
