A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 629

"Matilda!"

In the blink of an eye, a man's roar shattered the silence, followed by the world spinning out of control. The deafening crack of gunfire tore through the sky, while Rachel's scream pierced the air, "Yvan!"

Before Matilda could even react, Rachel had tackled her to the ground, pinning her down fiercely. But... but Matilda could distinctly hear the sickening sound of bullets tearing through flesh and blood.

Everything began to collapse around her. She saw Yvan, hunched over in front of her, his left hand clutching a gunshot wound at his waist, groaning in pain as blood poured out.

"Nobody move!"

Hadrian was about to caution them against provoking Chad into firing again when Chad, who had already lost all reason, screamed, gun in hand, "You think you're brave? You think you can take a bullet for Matilda, huh?"

"No—!"

Time seemed to freeze for Matilda, breaking down into frame-by-frame images, with sounds muted, leaving only the replaying motions that were etched into her memory forever.

She watched in horror as Chad efficiently loaded his gun and fired at Yvan, who was shielding her, giving him no chance to escape until the gun was empty—bang, bang, bang, bang—six shots rang out, jolting everyone back to reality. Yvan's body spasmed as he fell to his knees, then coughed up blood.

No one expected this tragic turn of events. Rachel's tears streamed down her face, "Yvan!"

Ignoring the fact that Rachel was physically challenged, Matilda pushed her aside, her usually composed demeanor shattered, as she screamed through her tears, "Get off!"

She ran towards Yvan's battered figure, but what happened next took everyone by surprise.

Yvan, who should have been critically injured and near death, saw Chad preparing to shoot Matilda with one last bullet he had saved. Gathering his strength, he got up from the ground and lunged at Chad!

Normally, a gun could hold one more bullet in the chamber, so it wasn't six, but seven!

Chad fell backward under the force of Yvan's attack, the gun pressed against Yvan's chest. With a tremble of his finger, the final bullet silently burrowed into Yvan's flesh.
