A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 678

"Dude, what took you so long? I was almost a goner back there!" Yvan yelled, leaping from one side of the car to the other without a moment's hesitation. He landed smoothly and yanked open the passenger door, diving into the seat, "Let's hit the road!"

"I'm the one who should be saying 'dude, really?'!" Lance retorted, spinning the steering wheel as the Lamborghini's engine roared to life. He floored the accelerator, pulling off a slick, heart-stopping drift on the road, "What mess did you get into this time? Picking fights again?"

"Damn, I was outnumbered, okay? It's not like I'm a superhero. Cut the chatter, would I stir trouble if they hadn't messed with me first?" Yvan wrapped his arms around Matilda through his suit jacket, "I had just finished up and thought of hitting the local pub to look for Matilda. The moment I walked in, I saw them hassling my girl. You think you could've stood by?"

Catching a glimpse of Matilda, shivering in Yvan's embrace, Lance's voice pitched higher, "Hell no!"

With that, he spun the wheel again, declaring, "To the bat cave! We're heading back!"

"Back for what?"

Yvan glanced at the rearview mirror, "They followed us out of the pub."

"Then let's not waste time!" Lance slammed on the gas pedal, "There are two rifles in the back, fully loaded. Let's settle this score, for your girl's sake!"

Yvan whistled, reaching back to grab a long sniper rifle. He loaded it expertly with one hand, still holding Matilda with the other. Noticing her flushed face, he mistakenly thought she was just frightened and touched her forehead to reassure her, "It's okay, I've got you."

"It's your time to shine," Lance said, honking the horn and driving the wrong way down the street with reckless abandon, "Well, if we're going down, we're going down together. Let's make some noise in Australia."

Yvan raised the sniper rifle, activating the infrared sight, and aimed at one of the pursuers' feet, a cold smile on his lips, "Time to remind them who I am."

"Right, 'cause you're the 'big bad' of Australia," Lance chuckled, as Yvan handed him another rifle. Lance turned the car around, closing in on the group that had chased them, and as he slightly lowered the window, the pursuers barely had time to react before seeing the slender barrel of a sniper rifle poking out.

"Damn it, they're armed!"

One of the men shouted, "Stop chasing them! They've got guns!"

But it was too late.

Lance, holding the sniper rifle, fired a series of shots, creating a line of bullet marks at their feet, throwing their formation into chaos.

Before they could react, Yvan fired his bullet with pinpoint accuracy.

Screams filled the air as the man who had slapped Matilda earlier took a bullet to the knee, perfectly lodged in the joint, sending him to the ground, pale and screaming in agony, his body convulsing.

"Your aim could give Pride from the Seven Deadly Sins a run for his money."
