A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 683

However, Matilda was blissfully unaware of Yvan's myriad thoughts about her. After swallowing the pills Lance had provided, she focused solely on retrieving her phone, which Yvan had previously set aside.

It was late into the night, and she knew Logan would be worried sick if she didn't return soon.

Sure enough, the moment she held her phone, it rang. The ringtone seemed oddly familiar to Yvan, but he had no time to ponder as Matilda answered the call.

"Hello?" Her voice was cool as ever, but a closer listen revealed a soft huskiness, the kind that whispered of intimate secrets shared in the quiet of the night.

"Mommy, where did you go?" Logan's voice came through, "Why haven't you come home? I'm really worried about you!"

"I'll be home soon," Matilda soothed him.

"How can you be out by yourself like this!" Logan sounded upset. "Do you know how worried I am? It's too dangerous for you to be out alone. Don't do this again!"

"Alright, alright," Matilda chuckled resignedly. "I'm sorry, okay?"

Logan huffed before adding, "Adrian's really worried about you, too."

"I'll be home soon." As Matilda spoke, she was busy straightening her clothes and slipping into her shoes, with Yvan helpfully handing them to her. She mouthed a 'thank you' to him, and Yvan smirked, his eyes narrowing in amusement.

"Okay, I'll be back within half an hour, and I won't wander off. You two stay put in the hotel, don't go out on your own, got it?"

After calming Logan down and hanging up, Matilda let out a sigh of relief. She still felt weak, as if lacking strength, but it was a vast improvement from before, and her complexion was getting back to normal. She bowed slightly toward them, "Thank you for your help tonight."
