A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 715

Matilda hailed a cab and stood alone by the curb, waiting for her ride to arrive. Meanwhile, Yvan lingered in the underground parking lot for what felt like ages before he realized she had left. By the time he chased after her, Matilda's figure was nowhere to be found on the bustling street.

It was as if she had vanished into thin air, as though she had never existed.

Yvan felt an emptiness inside him, like he had lost something crucial, a missing piece of a puzzle that he couldn't obtain or find.

It took Matilda twenty minutes to get home. When she walked through the door, she saw Chloe and Godfrey sitting in the living room.

Orson was there too, and Logan was probably already asleep. It seemed like everyone was waiting up for her.

Matilda felt a bit awkward and tugged at her dress, "What's up?"

"Just glad you're home safe," Chloe finally exhaled in relief. "Seeing you dressed so lightly for a business meeting, we were worried you might run into trouble. So, we all waited up for you. If you hadn't come back in the next half an hour, I was about ready to storm the bars with a baseball bat."

Matilda chuckled and dropped her purse, sitting down next to Chloe and wrapping an arm around her, "Aww, I knew you cared the most."

"Oh, stop buttering me up; it won't work!" Chloe snorted. "Next time, you're not going out like that alone. Men must've been ogling you all the way. And about business meetings, you shouldn't go alone either. At least take Carl with you or, heck, take me. I might be a secretary by training, but with me there, who'd dare let you drink?"

Chloe had noticed the smell of alcohol on Matilda as soon as she sat down. Given the strength of the scent, she must have had quite a bit to drink.
