A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 727

At the entrance of the bustling downtown mall, a pair of sneaky figures made their appearance.

Godfrey and Chloe, donned in berets and capes reminiscent of a Sherlock Holmes duo, were armed with nothing but a mock pipe between their lips. They ducked and weaved through the crowd, following another couple covertly as if engaging in guerrilla warfare.

Matilda and Mark.

"Think Mark's got a shot?" Chloe whispered.

Godfrey shook his head doubtfully. "Looks iffy to me."

"Sigh, if it's not meant to be, then so be it. Let's see how this goes. If it doesn't work out, I'll quit bugging Matilda about it." Chloe ducked behind a display, pondering their next move. "Should we give them a little nudge?"

Godfrey chuckled. "Let them sort it out. I bet Matilda quit her job today, probably trying to blow off some steam through retail therapy."

"That's good, I guess," Chloe muttered. "Better than her bottling everything up until she's back in that dark place of depression…"

"You're more concerned about her than I am," Godfrey feigned annoyance. "Wish you'd show me that kind of concern. If I knew getting depressed would get me more attention from you, I might've considered it."

"Don't be ridiculous!" Chloe playfully smacked him. "Matilda's my best and only true friend. I have to look out for her."

"How about looking out for me for a change?" Godfrey leaned in with a mock plea, "We've been together six months and it's been nothing but chaste kisses and hand-holding. When do I get a little more... affection?"

Chloe's cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "What are you even talking about? Back off!"
