Declan stood there, frozen, until the silhouettes of Chloe and Godfrey vanished into the horizon. It was only then that he stumbled backward, as if struck by an unseen force.
Whispers echoed around him, each one feeling like a slap across his face.
Declan's heart felt like it had a gaping hole, and the chilly wind whipped through it, sending shivers down his spine.
It took him a while to snap out of his daze, his face a picture of panic before he hurried away. Onlookers later said they saw the tall and handsome man walk away from the store window, his departure marked by a solitude that made him seem like the loneliest person in the world.

Meanwhile, Chloe and Godfrey, disheartened by their encounter with Declan, decided to cut their outing short. On the other hand, Matilda and Mark were in high spirits.
"I can't believe you know so much about makeup," Matilda remarked as she browsed through a counter, surprised by Mark's expertise as he analyzed various products, occasionally pointing out the hottest items on the market.
"It's all thanks to the family business in the luxury cosmetics line," Mark said with a smile. "I think that highlighter looks pretty good on you."
The sales assistant, spotting the attractive couple, chimed in eagerly, "Your boyfriend has a great eye, miss. That's our most popular highlighter. You should definitely give it a try..." It seemed like a sure sale, given the couple's affluent appearance.
Matilda felt a bit awkward at the mention of 'boyfriend' and was about to correct the assistant when she noticed Mark didn't seem bothered. He scrutinized the shade and remarked, "You don't often use highlighter, do you?"
"Only for very formal occasions. I don't usually go for a full makeup look," Matilda admitted, somewhat sheepishly.
