A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 759

A bunch of folks had already thrown in the towel on trying to get through to Declan, resigned to just watch him drown his sorrows in booze. But Keaton, he couldn't stand idly by any longer. With a firm grip, he hoisted Declan up, “Enough is enough, man! What's the point of this whole song and dance? Chloe's out there living her best life with someone else, and here you are, wallowing. You were the one who let her go, and now you can’t seem to cut the cord. What's the deal? Even if you dropped dead this moment, it'd be a favor to her, so she wouldn’t have to deal with your mess!”

That was harsh, even by Keaton's standards. Lance and Yvan feared this would push Declan over the edge, leading to a brawl, but Declan didn't bite.

A spark flared in Declan's gloomy eyes as he looked up at Keaton, murmuring almost unconsciously, “Die? How could I dare... My biggest fear... is leaving this world without her shedding a single tear for me, perhaps even celebrating my departure...”

“And who exactly are you putting on this pitiful show for?” Keaton was at his wit's end. It seemed like no amount of scolding could wake these guys up. Yvan had been no saint to Matilda back in the day, and now, even if he begged on his knees for her return, she wouldn’t blink an eye before walking away. Declan had seen it all, yet he learned nothing.

Drowning your sorrows in drink till you're less than human, eh?

“Thrilled to ruin your health, are you? Hoping for a miracle that Chloe comes running back, only to end up sick and alone? That’s the goal, right?!” Keaton was shaking with anger, “What I can't stand the most are guys like you! You didn’t cherish Chloe when you had her, when she was all in for you. What were you doing? Squandering her love! And now that she’s made a clean break, you’re all about chasing after her, pestering her. How is this any different from Yvan six months ago? No difference, you’re all the same, a bunch of no-goods!”

Yvan got dragged into the tirade too.

Keaton was usually a patient man, used to dealing with all sorts of difficult patients at the hospital. Being a doctor, he was all about compassion, always looking out for others.

But he was utterly fed up with his hopeless brothers, constantly making the same mistakes. He’d warned Yvan, told him to make amends while he still had the chance, but no. And Declan, after causing Chloe so much pain that one night, Keaton had tried to knock some sense into him too, to no avail. And now, here he was, a total wreck. Served him right!

Keaton, losing his filter, continued, “You think ignoring your well-being and getting drunk will make Chloe pity you? How naive can you be! If I were Chloe, I’d wish you’d just disappear, make it easier on myself. What’s drowning your sorrows in alcohol gonna prove?

If you were truly suffering, why not just end it? Matilda, in her darkest times in jail, chose to fight for her life even after attempting to end it! And you? I bet you wouldn’t have the guts to do even that. You’re a coward!

Chloe’s moved on, and if Yvan were in your shoes today, at least he’d own up to his mistakes, shamelessly begging for forgiveness and trying to win her back. Even facing rejection, he’d let her know his true feelings. What about you?”

What are you doing?

Declan’s heart skipped a beat as Keaton laid into him, “You’re still blaming Chloe, still scouring for excuses from her end! I’m sick of it. Let me tell you, if Chloe ever looks back, it’d be the day hell freezes over. Any random guy off the street would be a better catch than you!”
