Bumpkin’s Rich Handsome Husband novel Chapter 1301

"Don't attempt to get close to me." Matthew glanced at her with indifference. "It's best not to have those inappropriate thoughts." His tone was cold, with no regard for Eleanor.

However, Eleanor was contemptuous of this. Lifting her foot, she deliberately teased him by brushing her toe against his loose trousers. "What thoughts could I, Princess Eleanor of the hidden clan, possibly have? I simply wish to establish a good relationship with you so that you'll look after me." She pointed her delicate finger toward the vast mountain. "There are hundreds of people all over the mountain. How many of them wish to harm you and take my life? I merely desire to stay by your side for protection." But it will be even better if I can bring a handsome man back with me, she hoped in her heart.

"All three men arranged by your mother are highly skilled. I'm sure they can protect you well." Matthew uttered coldly and turned to pack up the tent, preparing to continue the journey.

On the other hand, Eleanor merely leaned against the tree trunk, gazing up at the emerald green snake, lost in thought.

Taking advantage of Matthew's inattention, Eleanor approached a man and whispered, "Later, the three of you should leave quickly."

"But, Your Highness—" Before the man could finish his words, Eleanor shot him a sharp look, and he immediately fell silent. Soon, that group of five packed up their belongings and continued onward.

"Your Highness, there are three forks ahead. Jonathan and I will explore one path. Kenneth, you explore the other." The man who spoke went toward the leftmost path with Jonathan, while the person called Kenneth took the middle path.

Matthew then said to Eleanor, "You wait here. I'll check over there."

Seizing the perfect opportunity to get rid of Eleanor, Matthew naturally wouldn't let it slip away. However, she wouldn't allow him to have his way. "I'll go with you. It's too dangerous for me to stay here alone." She stuck to him, not giving him the chance to shake her off.

Walking along the path, the two remained silent. Rather than calling it a path, it was more like an inconspicuous trail created by experienced hunters.

Eleanor saw Matthew walking briskly ahead without any intention of turning back and reckoned that he wanted to shake off everyone so he could look for Veronica.

A glimmer flashed in her eyes as she secretly plotted. "Oh, Master, please slow down, I can't keep up." Eleanor tugged at her backpack and quickened her pace to catch up with him. She tried to find a topic to talk about and said, "Why are you walking so fast? Are you in a hurry to see your wife?"

Matthew was quiet.

Seeing that he ignored her, she asked again, "I've always been curious about how you two met. Can you tell me about it?"

This time, he finally spoke, but he replied coldly, "It's none of your concern."

"Hmph, how dull." Feeling neglected, she felt a bit annoyed.

The two walked on the hillside, which was steep and covered with natural boulders and some gravel, so there were only a few scattered trees. Eleanor stepped on the gravel and felt the difficulty of walking. She looked at the man's back in front of her and noticed that they had already created a distance of more than thirty feet between them.

A cunning glint flashed in her eyes, and she stumbled, shouting at the top of her lungs, "Ah, help me!" As her cry for help echoed, she fell directly to the ground and rolled down the hillside, shouting, "Help, Master! Save me!"
