Yolanda casually flipped through Agnes' resume, her eyes scanning the details.
“Four years at a top global news network, and then you suddenly decided to come back home. Why is that?” she asked, her tone nonchalant.
Everyone knew that Jared's ex-wife had disappeared without a trace four years ago. But as time passed, people gradually forgot about her. Now her sudden reappearance was puzzling. Rumors of Jared's broken engagement and illegitimate child made the situation even more intriguing. Could Agnes be involved?
Yolanda looked at Agnes, trying to gauge her reaction. This woman was no longer Mrs. Whitfield. Yolanda remembered all too well how much she had suffered at Agnes' hands when they were younger. If it wasn't for Agnes, Yolanda might have become Jared’s wife herself. She could still vividly remember the humiliation Jared had put her through because of Agnes.
But as the saying goes, what goes around, comes around. Now Agnes was in Yolanda's power.
Agnes gave a small laugh and came up with a reason on the spot. “My grandma's getting on in years and needed someone to look after her, so I decided to come back home.”
She didn't want Yolanda to know that her return had anything to do with Jared. Their past quarrel had been over him, after all. In fact, she was considering resigning altogether. She knew Yolanda's character well enough to expect retaliation from her. But she was reluctant to leave her new column. So she decided to bide her time and see what happened. She had heard from colleagues that Yolanda was now married. After all these years, perhaps she had presumably let go of her past obsession with Jared.
Yolanda gave a light laugh and swiftly signed off on the report. She had suspected that Agnes' sudden appearance might be related to Jared. But everyone knew how Agnes and Jared's marriage had ended. Agnes had exposed the Whitfield family's dirty secrets for some unknown reason and had been kicked out by Jared. They must have cut all ties by now.
Moreover, the rumors about Jared's broken engagement involved a celebrity named Sharon, as did the reports about an illegitimate child. Agnes was clearly not involved in any of this.
How could she have thought that Agnes' return might have something to do with Jared? Things would be much simpler if that were the case. The Pritchard family was bankrupt now, and the Starlight International Group had been taken over by Century Entertainment. Agnes was clearly on her own now.
Yolanda would have to keep her close for now and deal with her slowly. She smiled lightly and said, “Agnes, I've gone through your resume and everything seems fine. Welcome to our News Department.”
Agnes smiled back. “Thank you, Director.”
Yolanda handed the report to Agnes, her voice softening. “We both come from the same university, and we have the bond of being alumnae. I'll naturally take care of you. I know we had some unpleasant experiences during our internship at the Tim Group, but times have changed, and we've all moved on. I hope there won't be any hard feelings between us.”
Agnes laughed lightly. “As long as you don't hold a grudge, Director.”
Yolanda smiled. “Well then, why don't you go and get familiar with the working environment?”
Agnes nodded. “Sure, Director.”
