Since I became a married woman, today is the first time that I woke up with my husband beside me. But unfortunately, we're not naked.
"So nothing happened between us," I murmured before I sat up. My eyes diverted back to my husband's angelic face. I have seen his expressions: mad, irritated, annoyed and dumbfounded. But my favorite expression of his is this - the calm Chadwick.
"I wonder what he looks like when we're doing it." Bothered by these dirty thoughts, I shook my dizzy head.
Last night, I had a drink with that tall and handsome bartender named Geoffrey.
[ “Well, Actually, there’s a girl I am so interested with. She will divorce her husband after five months. So I have to wait.” ]
After his voice has flashback in my memories, I was sure that I lost my consciousness because of his absurdness. I must had drink my beer in one shot last night after I heard his crazy confession. It wasn't the beer that knocked me out though. The tequila I drank before that must be the real culprit. Anyway, how did I arrive here?
‘How did I get back to the house?’
"The troublemaker is finally awake, I see," Chadwick’s voice pulled me to look back at him. He was sitting up with a groan, as if his body feels so heavy he’s carrying a ten-wheeler truck behind his back.
"Nothing happened between us, right?" Was the first question that I flung.
An accusatory frown creased is forehead. I knew my question pissed him. So what? Didn’t he ask me for a divorce and I agreed with the terms that he should make me pregnant?
“NOTHING HAPPENED BETWEEN US,” he said. “Would you stop asking that?”
"Like...seducing you?" Then I put my hands at the tip of my polo shirt. I was about to lift it up but Chadwick held my wrist to stop me.
Teasing him above the bed is fun.
‘Maybe I am still drunk.’
"Damn it, Adira," he cursed, sweeping his face a little roughly.
Now that I decided to act matured(?), I asked a serious question. "Why did I end up on your bed?"
Chadwick and I decided to sleep in different quarters before we got married. So this scene surprised me a lot, though I succeeded on putting my nonchalant face.
"Hey, you..." His response that sounds so incomplete. "...stay away from him. That guy is a jerk."
I have no idea at first. But my genius brain told me that he was maybe talking about the bartender, Geoffrey.
"Did that guy bring me here?" I inquired.
Chadwick gave me a dubious sigh as he looked away. "I didn't know how did you meet that freak but I'm warning you, Adira. He's a bastard."
My husband and that I guy I met in college knew each other? When did they meet?
Chadwick did not study in my university.
So how come the CEO of Wine&Vibe knows that bartender?
Among many possibilities, one idea came to my head.
"Is he..." I let out a long wonder then continued while narrowing my eyes, "...your ex-boyfriend?"
My husband's eyes widened. If he was in animation, his eyes could probably popped out like that spring clown inside the magic box.
"Hey!" He gave me an ear-piercing shout. "Can we at least have a normal talk?! You're spitting nonsense! I'm straight! I like girls! What's the hell wrong with your head?!"
Well, everything in this world is possible.
Scratching my ear, I jumped down from his bed. "I'll prepare for my work," I uttered.
"For the last time, stay away from him," he repeated that stopped my feet.
Barely turning around, I smiled at my husband. "I will. If you give me a baby."
I thought he'll throw a pillow to my face just like before. However, Chadwick wore an expression that I couldn't read. He was looking straight to me with rigid stare and pursed lips.
I, who never apologized for saying those seductive words to my husband, have bowed my head and said, "I won’t say sorry, though. I mean it." Then I walked out from his room.
Of course, I never thought on cheating at him while we're still a married couple. But I don't mind if Chadwick welcomes his other girl on his arms or hugs her in front of me.
‘He did kiss Isa before. Tsssk.’
Thus, his recent words and actions have made me confused a little bit. We both don't have feelings for each other so he should treat me the same.
‘Don’t tell me he is…’
I quickly shook my head at the weird accusation I had. That is impossible.
"He's not jealous. There's no way he will," I uttered.
Walking with crossed arms, I was trying my best to reminisce my journey to home last night. If that bartender brought me here because I was so drank, there's no way we had a s*x. If we did, I would probably wake up in a hotel, not on my husband's bed. Also, even if that Geoffrey confessed his feelings, he said that courting a married woman is too immoral. Right. He's a good guy(?) after all.
‘Anyway, if he is really that nerdy guy I met in college, then he changed a lot.’
I can’t recall all the times I met him but I can tell we had some few conversations before.
‘So he had a crush on me since 12 years ago. Wow.’
That’s why when he saw me at the bar for the first time, he appeared so surprised.
One mystery solved.
He avoided me after knowing that I am married.
Second mystery solved.
And the idiot me, told him that I will divorce my husband.
Another mystery resurfaced.
How will I fix this?
‘All I need is to avoid him.’
Right. I don’t need to go to that bar starting from now.
He’s handsome and tall but… he’s not someone I can be with. The CEO of Crimson Meadow cannot marry a commoner.
Besides, how can I play the feelings of a man who struggled enough?
‘But it was me who told him that falling in love is not late, and that he should go for it.’
Damn it.
I’m out of idea.
Let’s go to work and think about this later.
I still have five months before the divorce. If I can have a child before, then problem solve.
"Ding dong~"
I looked at the door where I heard the sound of the doorbell.
‘There’s only one person who will come here during this hour.’
I walked towards the door and saw my husband’s woman through the security screen.
“Coming here after making a ruckus. I really praise her braveness.”
Should I call my husband and tell him that Isa, the girl he loves, has come to visit?
'No. Let's have fun for a moment, Adira.' with this evil thought, I unbuttoned the top three buttons of my white polo shirt before I opened the door.
Subsided smile and rounded eyes, I could see her disappointments over seeing me instead of my husband.
"My husband is still on his bed," I reported.
Isa diverted her eyes at my seductive shirt then back to my smiling face. "Oh, I see. I made a sandwich for him. Can you please give this to him instead?" She asked while smiling so wide.
Oh my.
She didn't get jealous at all.
I thought that after making a sh*t on the event, she and Chadwick finally realized their feelings for each other and sealed it with a kiss.
But this woman doesn’t look like someone who has a feelings for my husband.
‘A psycho.’
“Just go inside the house and give the sandwich to him. I am sure he’ll gonna love it,” I replied.
Isa nodded her head and smiled again.
“Actually, I heard what happened to the event a bit too late. I was so drunk that night. I apologized for that.”
She’s drunk? Drunk enough to forget everything?
I doubted that.
“So I made Chadwick’s favorite sandwich to thank him for helping me,” she added.
“If you are really thankful, you should not come here, Miss Isa.”
“Huh?”
“Because of you, my husband had to face the rumor that he’s having a affair. And to fix that, we need to work extra. If you come here, another rumor might come again.”
“Chadwick is having an affair and that’s me?” she asked, pointing herself. “Oh no! How can I be that kind of woman?! Isn’t it funny that Chadwick will like me despite of having an amazing woman like you? Adira?”
It’s too fast. But I am sure I saw her smirking for short time.
‘Is she… laughing at me? This b*tch.’
“Yes. That’s funny,” I agreed then sneered openly.
I don’t need to hide anything from her, since we both knew we don’t like each other very well.
“My husband is so into a dumb girl who is walking back and forth to two men like a yo-yo.”
Her smile faded and her eyes turned wide.
That must be a huge blow on her.
“W-What do you mean?” she asked. Her lips trembled and her hands on the paperbag clutched so tight.
“I called you dumb.”
Isa gave me a glare as she bit her lower lip.
“W-Why are you saying that to me? You offended my feelings, Adira,” she stuttered in quivering voice. “Do you… hate me that much?”
“Then should I like you?”
“I mean, it’s natural that you hate me because your husband has a feelings for me but…”
“I don’t care,” I said that stopped her. “I don’t want to care to a woman like you who needs attention.”
Isa clearly does not harbor feelings for Chadwick. She is just using him as her way to comfort herself. Well, once Chadwick and I got a divorce, I don’t need to see this woman anymore. So better settle things earlier than never.
“If you wanted me to get jealous, then I will apologize,” I added. “Because I never ever got jealous at you and my husband. Even if you kissed in front of me.”
“...”
“I don’t get jealous. I am someone who makes other people jealous of me,” I said with a smirk.
“No,” she answered. “I actually pity you.”
What?
Suddenly?
“Pity who?”
“You. I pity you, Adira. Because you don’t have any emotions. I pity you for being platonic.”
I clenched my fists behind my back so she wouldn’t see it. Why do I need to hear her pitying me? It made me so damn mad.
“Poor Chadwick,” she murmured, crying without tears. “Why did he marry a woman who cannot give him the love that he needs? Someone who is not worth to touch.”
This time, Isa did not hide her heinous grin behind her angelic mask.
“Wearing seductive clothes,” She added, pointing my clothes and the three unbuttoned buttons on my sleeves. “That won’t work.”
“...”
“So who’s more pitiful? A woman who begs for a man’s love? Or a wife who begs her husband to have a sex with her?”
I opened my lips and about to answer her question but at the same time, my husband came out of his room and saw us in the living room.
“Isa?” he called.
Isa and I looked back at him.
“Why are you… here?”
“Chadwick! I came here because I…”
Isa did not finish her words because we heard a knock coming from the already open door.
We all looked at the entrance and saw the tall man with blonde hair, sharp eyes, arched brows, pointed nose, heart-shape lips and small face. My eyes went too wide, a family of giraffe might come inside my eyes.
‘What is he doing here?!’
“Good morning,” Geoffrey greeted before his eyes met mine. “I came here to return something. But guess what I witnessed? It seems I came at the wrong time.”
“B-Brother. What are you doing here?” Isa asked Geoffrey.
I lost my ability to think for a moment and stayed at my place while listening quietly.
“Hey Geoffrey. Didn’t I warn you enough? Get lost,” Chadwick told him.
When my brain processed what is happening right now, I was dumbfounded.
‘Chadwick, Isa and Geoffrey knew each other.’
Then there is a possibility that…
‘This is my husband’s messy love triangle.’
