Employees of Crimson Meadow and Wine&Vibe enjoy themselves in the beach, as there are plenty more fun things to do at the beach than meets the eye.
They build sandcastles, go for a swim, bury someone in the sand, planning of camping, collect seashells or rock, indulge themselves in fruity or alcoholic drinks, ocean fishing, have barbecue or seafood, play beach volleyball or surf. But most of them take photographs as they want to make lasting memories in the beautiful place and to keep them back it tracks if they become busy again in work.
As time passed by, the sunset will about to come.
Wearing white t-shirt, black short and sunglasses, Adira is relaxing on a chair with the cool ocean breeze brushing her skin, a drink at hand and the sun setting on the horizon.
The sound of the waves and the birds, and the clouds lazily floating by made her mind drifted as well. Lying down on the beach chair, she closed her eyes and was present at the moment. She let her worries and distractions slowly meet under the sun and flow of the waves.
‘I don’t know why father suddenly think of giving us a two-day vacation but it’s not that bad,’ Adira said in her mind.
At this moment, she wanted to forget her work, her relationship with her husband and her upcoming divorce.
Blank.
Adira found a peace of mind.
Not until…
“Excuse me?”
Adira opened her eyes and stared at the person who called her. She saw a cute man fidgeting beside her.
Removing her sunglasses, she sat up and smiled at the shy man.
“Yes?” she answered.
“We are going to play volleyball,” the man said in low tone.
Behind his back, Adira saw a bunch of guys and girls waiting. They seemed like employees from Wine&Vibe.
‘So, they sent this poor guy as their sacrificial lamb,’ Adira laughed inwardly.
“We are short in one person,” the man continued. “So do you want to come and play with us?”
Volleyball. The word itself rang inside her ear like a broken plaque.
It is her favorite game and in fact, she once dreamed of being a professional volleyball player during her high school days. But all dreams shattered when she went to college. Because Adira knew that her future does not belong in the court but in a large company.
Adira stared at the volleyball net from afar.
She missed playing it. However, she does not want to because it will remind her of a futile dream, he had from a long time ago.
“Ma’am,” Hansel called Adira.
Like a savior, Hansel saved her boss from the tight situation.
“Aren’t we going to visit the cave?” Hansel asked.
The two of them did not plan on visiting a cave. However, that is a cue to Adira that Hansel is giving her a chance to escape.
“Ohhh, right,” Adira murmured. She looked at the man and apologized. “I am sorry. But I have plans with my secretary.”
“Really, ma’am?” The boy fell in grimace.
“Yes. You can go and find someone else.”
Adira put her drink on the side. Then stood up and quickly went to Hansel’s side. The two of them naturally walked away from the crowd.
“That’s a good job, saving me,” Adira praised Hansel.
Hansel chuckled and said, “It’s because I know ma’am does not want volleyball.”
Adira stopped walking, and so did Hansel. Looking at each other, Adira wondered how Hansel knew that she’s avoiding volleyball.
“How did you know?” Adira asked.
“Well, when there is a volleyball game on television, you changed the channel. When the company wanted to get a famous volleyball player to advertise our product, you did not approve it. And whenever you saw people playing volleyball games outside, you keep your eyes away.”
All these years, Adira tried so hard not to let anyone know about this. Thus, she never expected that Hansel has been noticing her for a long time.
“It’s not that I hate volleyball,” Adira said before walking again.
Hansel followed her and matched her pace.
“Actually, it’s the other way around. I love it so much.”
Eyes widened, Hansel stared at her boss’ side profile. All this time, she thought Adira hates it, and was shocked to know the truth.
“That is why I feel jealous of people who can play it,” Adira added, watching her feet covered with sands.
The orange light from the sunset shimmered down on them. Walking to the left side, Hansel stared at light shining upon Adira and the sad expression on her face.
Then, she remembered what Neil told her a moment ago.
[“Chadwick likes Adira!”]
At first, Hansel thought that Chadwick is an idiot man. If he likes her, then why doesn’t he just go and confess his feelings?
However, Hansel realized that it is not easy, especially when the other person who will receive the confession is Adira.
Take volleyball for an example. Although Adira loves it, she acted as if she hates it. She is a person who is a fan of logical reasoning than emotional reasoning. Will she be able to comprehend her husband’s feelings? Hansel doubts that.
‘But we have to try,’ she added inside her mind.
“Is there another thing that you wanted to have but you are avoiding?” Hansel inquired while walking beside her.
“Hmmm,” Adira hummed. She looked up, thinking answers to her secretary’s question. “I couldn’t think of anything more.”
“What about, love?”
For the second time, they both stopped their paces and looked at each other. Staring at Hansel’s serious face, Adira burst out laughing.
“Are you asking that question to a married woman like me?”
Before Hansel answered, she looked left to right to make sure no one would hear their conversation. After making sure that there was no one around, Hansel said, “But ma’am got married without love. Didn’t you dream of marrying someone you have feelings for?”
Adira fell in such thoughts.
‘Did I dream of that?’
She did not. Even when she was young, she knew that her life would be tied up with responsibilities as the daughter of Falcon Hale. She grew up believing that no one loved her sincerely except her dead mother. So, getting love, just like the volleyball, she thinks that it is a futile dream.
‘But someone confessed to me that he loves me,’ Adira thought while having Geoffrey in her mind. However, for her, the time is too late. All she dreamed about was having a peaceful life without messy relationship. That’s why she decided to stop seducing her husband and get pregnant with Chadwick’s baby.
“I hate messy relationships,” Adira answered before she walked forward without destination.
Hansel watched her back and sighed.
‘If I am Sir Chadwick, I think I will also hesitate to confess,’ Hansel concluded after having a deep conversation with her boss.
She wanted to ask more about Adira’s point of view and feelings, however, Hansel thinks she does not have the rights to talk more about this. After all, she’s a wife who claimed that she has a healthy relationship with her husband because they love each other so much, but in the end, she’s getting a divorce.
Keep walking in the sand and watching the beautiful scenery, the two beautiful ladies marched forward in silence. Not until Hansel spoke and broke the serenity.
“Ma’am, do you know that there is a cave here in this place?”
“A cave?” Adira murmured, quite curious.
“Yes. They said if you go there…” Hansel pointed the direction. “You will see a special cave.”
“Why did they call it a special cave?”
“Hmmmm~” Hansel shrugged her shoulder after a long pause. “I am not sure. But the residence here said that if you go to that cave, a lucky person might see a gold.”
‘GOLD?!’ Adira exclaimed inside her mind.
As the daughter of a billionaire, Adira has a lot of money. However, finding gold sounds so fun.
“Do you want to go and find the gold while the sun is up?” Adira offered to Hansel.
Secretly, Hansel laid a smirk on her lips.
‘Ma’am took the bait,’ she laughed inwardly.
---------------------------------------------------------
Chadwick was left in the cottage while everyone is out in the beach. He’s drinking pineapple juice while eating barbecue.
He came here to enjoy himself but somehow, he felt a bit lonely.
‘I wonder what’s Adira doing.’
He looked in the direction of the ocean. Adira is now wearing a t-shirt and short, but still he couldn’t help but get worried if men come to her. However, even if they are married couple, he can’t force her to stay by his side.
If it is the old Adira, she might be sticking at his side right now while pretending to be a sweet wife. But nowadays, Chadwick can tell that Adira is avoiding him.
Chadwick sighed and grabbed his glass of juice.
“What’s the point of this vacation? I am still worrying about the same things all over again,” he uttered clicking his tongue.
While he was drowning himself with pineapple juice, he did not notice that Neil already sat beside him.
Neil watched his boss drinking the juice as if it was alcohol. Chadwick’s lifeless eyes resemble of a drunk person, and Neil could not help but to pity him. Everyone is out there, enjoying themselves. But the CEO is alone, and his wife does not care about him.
‘He’s so lucky that he has Neil,’ Neil told to himself.
“Sir.”
“Pffft…!” Chadwick sprayed the juice he’s drinking, making a halo with the light from the sun. Coughing and caressing his chest, he looked at Neil and complained. “Why did you suddenly appear out of nowhere?! You surprised me.”
“I apologized, sir,” Neil said with chuckles while wiping his face that was washed with the juice from Chadwick’s mouth.
“Why are you here?” Chadwick asked then looked at the ocean afar. “Just go there and have some fun. Once this vacation is over, there will be a lot of work to do.”
“Then what about you, sir? Why don’t you go out and play with everybody?”
“I am too old for that.”
“Don’t joke, sir. You are only turning 31 this year. That’s still young.”
“I am not in the mood to play,” Chadwick made another excuse.
“Because you are alone and sad?”
Chadwick glared at his secretary and said, “Can you just go and leave me alone?”
“Ahhh, you are so cocky,” Neil murmured.
“What did you say?”
Neil pouted his lips and complained, “I was trying to hang out with you, sir. But you keep on pushing me away. Now I feel jealous at Madam Adira and miss Hansel.”
When Adira was brought into the topic, Chadwick’s eyes sparked. Suddenly, he got interested and he does not want to push Neil away anymore.
“Why? What are they doing?”
Noticing the sudden changes in Chadwick’s voice, Neil looked at him with a sly smile. “Well, I heard that madam and miss went to visit a cave.”
“A cave? There is a cave here?”
“Yes. The residence said that only lucky people can find gold in that place.” Neil pointed his finger at a certain direction.
“Just the two of them?” the worried Chadwick asked.
“Yes. I saw them going there. Just the two of… oh?!” Neil gasped when he saw Hansel walking in their direction.
Chadwick, too, stared at Hansel and a frown settled on his face.
“Why did you come back alone, miss Hansel?” Neil asked.
Hansel glanced at Chadwick then back at Neil. She forged a cough and answered, “My tummy felt hurt all of a sudden. So, I came back and went to toilet.”
Abruptly, Chadwick stood up and asked, “How about Adira? I heard you and her came to the cave together.”
Once again, Hansel glanced at Neil before she replied, “She insisted on going alone. Ma’am wanted to check if the rumor is true or not.”
“Huh!” Chadwick snorted. “And you let that stubborn woman to go alone?!”
Cursing undertone, Chadwick did not hesitate a time and walked towards the direction Neil pointed.
Neil and Hansel watched how Chadwick walked at first, but then suddenly ran fast.
“Did you see that?” Neil asked to Hansel. “Do you know believe that my boss really cares for his wife?”
Hansel is now finally convinced. Indeed, Chadwick has feelings for Adira.
‘But I don’t think it will be an easy journey for him,’ Hansel sighed while looking at Chadwick’s back as he runs.
