Once Laurinda finished packing up, Arrow and York came over together. She handed the things to York, her tone casual as she asked, “Is everything at the house taken care of?”
“All sorted,” York replied. “The butler brought some of the staff from the main estate. The cooks and maids are the ones you like. They’re already cleaning up and getting things ready. The butler even brought some new saplings to plant in the backyard. Basically, they’re just waiting for you and Adolphus to come home.”
Just picturing the busy, cheerful atmosphere at the house put Laurinda in an even better mood. Her eyes lit up with excitement as she looked at York.
“Your office building is probably about finished too, right? When are you all moving over? I heard from Fidelia that her classes are wrapping up soon.”
York could see how much Laurinda wanted everyone together. He gave her a teasing smile, an eyebrow raised. “What’s the rush? Our plan was to move by the end of the year.”
“The end of the year? But the butler and the cooks are already here. Don’t you need people looking after you guys over there too?”
York just shrugged. “As long as you’re fine, that’s all I care about. Don’t worry about the Apex side. I’ll have Renata stay with you, and she can help out with the office renovations too.”
Laurinda had no complaints. Once Adolphus recovered, she would be heading to the lab for her studies and would probably be swamped.
“Alright, Renata can stay with me. What about Bonnie? Has she said when she’s coming back?”
York grinned. “Bonnie? Forget it. She and Harrell are having way too much fun. There isn’t much going on that needs her here, so I’m not about to drag her back. Let her do whatever makes her happy.”
York and Arrow started loading Adolphus’s things from the hospital into the car. Most of it was Laurinda’s, including a huge box full of books. She’d basically made the hospital her home these past few weeks, balancing her studies with taking care of Adolphus.
