From Ashes of Scandals to His Embrace novel Chapter 464

“We’re not heading back just yet. We’re going to my place. I told the butler to bring over the cooks and some of the staff from the estate. You can rest up there. If you need anything, let Arrow know and she’ll handle it. We can have her grab your things later.”

Adolphus frowned a little when he heard Laurinda’s plan. He couldn’t explain it, but he suddenly felt like one of those guys who just leans on his girlfriend.

“Wait, even if we’re going back, why can’t we go to my place? My house is…”

Laurinda glanced over at him, kind of amused that he had so much to say about this. She liked to think she was pretty open-minded, so she decided to give him a choice.

“You want to stay at your place?”

He met her eyes. For a second, Adolphus had a bad feeling, but still, he nodded bravely.

“If possible, it might be nice to stay at my place, right?”

“Sure, why not? Your parents don’t even know you were hurt. You could go home, let them know you’re okay. York, let’s take Adolphus back to the Lane—”

That’s when Adolphus realized, oh crap, he did not want his parents to know anything about his injury. He cut her off right away.

“No, no, wait, I take it back! I was totally wrong. I shouldn’t be so picky. It’s stupid to care about being a freeloader. I’m sorry. Let’s not go back to my parents’ place.”

He hugged Laurinda quickly, hoping she’d forgive him. Honestly, he had completely forgotten his parents didn’t know about any of this. Major oversight.

Laurinda ignored him, so Adolphus decided to go for the pitiful routine. “Laurinda, my head’s been hurt, I get confused sometimes. Please don’t be mad. I didn’t mean it, I promise.”

Meanwhile, Arrow quietly raised the car’s privacy divider. She didn’t want to listen anymore. She was honestly worried if she overheard much more she’d end up… not making it home. When had she ever seen her boss so whipped?

Laurinda watched the divider go up and couldn’t help but poke fun. “What, raising the divider now? Thought you were enjoying the show. Did you suddenly get shy?”

Arrow kept her head down, pretending she could just disappear. No way was she answering that. All she wanted was for the divider to rise a whole lot faster.

If she ever complained about her job, today would be the day.

Finally, York couldn’t hold it in anymore. He burst out laughing so hard he nearly lost his breath. How did these two manage to be so ridiculous? There was a definite comic duo thing going on here.

Once the divider was all the way up, Adolphus scooped Laurinda right onto his lap. He wrapped his arms around her waist and started pestering her again, absolutely refusing to let her go until she promised that she was his one and only, now and always.
