Austin POV
Paul is an asshole. As soon as Rebel said lie, he narrowed his eyes at her and I was ready to remind him why Blackstone is the most ruthless pack in the south. Before I could, Max intervened.
“Paul, enough.” He said and he is clearly irritated.
I never had to discipline my kids, but if Paul had been my son, he would have had a fist to face moment with me the moment he could fight back. This kid is an entitled brat and frankly, I’ve had enough.
“Alpha Paul, what exactly is your problem with Blackstone? Why do you dislike my son?” I asked, trying to keep my tone level set.
“I don’t dislike anyone, Alpha Austin.” He said.
“Lie.” Rebel said.
Paul narrows his eyes again and I growl low. “If my mate says you’re lying, it’s because you are. She is moon blessed and one of her gifts is to know when someone is lying. So spill. What do you have against our pack?”
Paul’s eyes widened slightly. Not much, but enough to tell me he is surprised.
“Alpha, I read the history between Blackstone and Ironclaw. I read about the past treaties. I read about the splitting of the mines and steel work. I also know that Blackstone and Ironclaw fell out with each other because your father didn’t want to trade industries.”
Aiden then spoke up, “Yeah, that’s where you are wrong, Alpha Paul. My grandfather tried to enter into a new treaty. The alpha at that time, which is not of your bloodline, wanted the mines but was not offering an exchange or trade of any kind.”
“Yeah, what I know is that Ironclaw should have always had a cut of the mines but never did. Now you come here telling us that your unique and special Luna talks to the Moon Goddess and says we have to merge with Blackstone? I’m not buying it.” Paul said.
“I have the original documents of the original treaty signed by my grandfather, Alpha Paul. Regardless, your father has never tried to intervene with Blackstone and until now, we have never tried to make any deals with Ironclaw. We wouldn’t come here and disturb you unless it was necessary.” I said, still trying to reign in my temper.
Rebel then spoke up, “Alpha Max, have you ever taken the time to talk to your son about Cullen and how his greed and obsession led to his death? Have you ever tried to talk to him about your role in trying to talk sense into Cullen to stop the madness?”
“I’ve tried Luna Rebel. My son…unfortunately…” He paused and looked at his son, “He’s willful and stubborn.”
