I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 199

Steven?

I whipped my head around in shock. Sure enough, there he was, striding in. He was dressed in a black shirt under a long, gray overcoat, a designer watch on his wrist. He looked taller, more handsome, and more imposing than ever.

I was stunned. This wasn’t supposed to happen. According to the script of my past life, Steven should be in another country right now, with his little darling.

Why had he gone off-script again?

The room instantly came alive. Guests flocked to him, their faces plastered with eager smiles, thrusting business cards into his hands, trying every trick in the book to get his attention.

It was like a scene from a celebrity sighting, a frenzy of people desperate to get close to him.

My father and Janice were beaming, their faces alight with surprise and delight. They pushed through the crowd to act as his bodyguards, ushering him into the main hall. Antonia, giddy with excitement, poured him a glass of wine and offered it to him with a lovesick expression.

Steven didn’t take it. His brow was slightly furrowed. He scanned the crowded room, his gaze finally landing on me, on the stairs. Only then did the tension in his handsome features seem to ease.

Seeing this, my father immediately turned to me, his smile so wide it threatened to split his face. “Zephyra, what are you doing up there? You and your little games. Steven was coming all along, and you had to pretend to surprise me. For a minute there, I really thought my son-in-law wasn’t coming.”

The other guests chuckled along.

I thought he wasn’t coming either.

I rolled my eyes and descended the stairs, my face a mask of annoyance. In my past life, when I had needed him, he had been off chasing other women. Now, when all I wanted was for him to disappear, he shows up, giving my father a huge ego boost and making me look like a fool. It was infuriating.

I reached for his tie, pulling it tight, as if to strangle him, while smiling sweetly.

“Darling, you were so focused on surprising Dad that you didn’t even notice your tie was crooked. You’re so silly.”

Steven wrapped an arm around my waist, pulling me into his embrace. With his other hand, he took mine and loosened the tie. I struggled, but I couldn’t break free.

My face was a thundercloud; his was a smirk. “Better now?” he murmured.

The guests cooed, praising our sweet, loving relationship.
