I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 209

His words were a stark reminder of all the foolish things I had done for him. If only I had been reborn a little sooner, I wouldn’t have been so blinded by love, and I certainly wouldn't have skipped my major-specific courses for a man.

But Steven's attitude made a slow smile spread across my face.

My dark, bright eyes met his. “Steven,” I said playfully, “do you know what happens when one person starts getting curious about another?”

He just watched me.

I leaned in closer, my eyes locked on his. “They start to develop feelings. The more curious you are, the stronger the feelings become. Let me give you some advice: in a hostile relationship like ours, you’d be wise not to get emotionally involved. Ask fewer questions about my life. Otherwise, if you accidentally fall for me, you’ll be the one who gets hurt.”

I knew it was unlikely, but what if?

In my past life, my unrequited love had brought me nothing but misery in our marriage. If he developed feelings for me, even a tiny bit, I would make him taste the same suffering I had endured.

I would make him understand what it felt like to love someone you could never have.

Steven stared at me, then let out a derisive snort.

“You wish. My standards aren’t low enough to fall for a woman who’s completely blind.”

“…”

Right. I couldn’t expect anything pleasant to come out of his mouth.

“Let’s hope so,” I huffed, straightening up and tidying the desk. “You seem pretty coherent. Are you sober now?”

Steven shot me a look, his expression indifferent. “I wasn’t drunk.”

My hands paused. If he wasn't drunk, then he was just plain crazy. A sober Steven would never care who I was sharing a bath with; he'd only care if I cheated and tarnished his reputation. He certainly wouldn't care who I was talking to or what tone of voice I used.

But I didn’t argue.

“Why did you come today? Weren’t you supposed to be flying abroad?”
