I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 224

My mind went blank, my eyes widening in shock.

What? Steven was dying?

That didn’t happen in my past life. Steven had been perfectly fine!

I rushed to the hospital, my thoughts a tangled mess. It was all so sudden, so surreal, that my first reaction wasn’t worry, but a cold calculation of how to handle our relationship now.

A broke woman like me had no defense against a multi-billion-dollar inheritance. If Steven died, I would be his sole heir.

But… our relationship wasn’t so bad that I wanted him dead.

I wrestled with myself the entire way there, but eventually, reality set in. No matter how much money the Lancaster family had, they would find a way to keep me from getting it. So, it was better for Steven to live. Live, and divorce me.

When I reached the operating room, I saw Gordon standing outside, his brow furrowed. “Gordon,” I asked anxiously, “what’s the situation? What did the doctor say? Is Steven going to make it?”

Before Gordon could answer, a shadow fell over me. I looked up and saw a familiar figure walking toward me, his expression cool and detached.

He was elegant and refined, dressed in a gray turtleneck and a long black coat. He looked down at me, handsome and aloof.

My eyes widened again. I was speechless.

“Steven? You’re okay?!”

He frowned, his tone icy.

“Was I supposed to be?”

What was this, a joke?

I whipped my head around to face Gordon, fire in my eyes. “Gordon, what’s going on? You said he was in a car accident, that he was in critical condition!”

I knew it. Nothing like this had happened in my past life. There was no reason for him to be so affected that he almost died.

Steven casually slipped his hands into his pockets, his sharp gaze falling on Gordon.

“Gordon, when was I in critical condition?”

Gordon immediately looked guilty, forcing a smile.
