Besides, I’d just had a nasty fight with Steven a few hours ago. The last thing I wanted was to see him now. I just needed to survive until Monday, sign the papers, and be done with him for good.
“Wait, don’t go!” Myron called out. “I’ve already ordered the food! You can’t just leave.”
At that moment, Steven looked up. His eyes darkened when he saw me, then shifted to Jacob standing beside me, his gaze turning icy.
“Why are they here?”
Myron gave a sheepish laugh. “Just the two of us drinking would be so depressing. I figured having her join would liven things up a bit.”
Steven scoffed. “Bringing along strays will only get you into trouble.”
I was speechless. Jacob was speechless.
Myron pressed his tongue against his cheek. “Fine, fine, I’m being nosy. Jacob, why don’t you take Zephyra to get something to eat? Celebrate with her, and the company will cover it.”
Jacob immediately turned to me, a sweet smile on his face. “Let’s go, Zephyra.”
I had no objections. Myron then added, “Wait, when you came in earlier, you said you were in a bad mood and wanted to order some pretty boys to dance and sing for you. I said no then, but now I think since you won today, you’re the boss. Go get whatever you want, the company will pay for everything. Young people should enjoy the nightlife. Go on, go wild.”
I stared at him, dumbfounded. When had I ever said I wanted pretty boys?
I was about to protest when Jacob happily replied, “Okay, Myron. I promise I’ll make sure Zephyra has a great time tonight.”
“Let’s go, Zephyra.” Jacob gently pushed me out of the room. As we left, the last thing I saw was Steven forcefully stubbing out his half-smoked cigarette in the ashtray.
