“I've already told her that I won't settle scores with her while she has amnesia. Let's just consider our past grievances shelved for now. You shouldn't give her a hard time either.”

“Right now, she's willing to get along with me, to stay by my side obediently. Even if I try to deny it or ignore it, my heart won't lie to me. I'm just happy. I'm happy to have her with me, even if it's just sitting beside me watching TV, or talking to me calmly. I'm happy.”

Myron looked like he was about to have an aneurysm, rolling his eyes to the heavens. “Steven, you're the definition of lovesick, for god's sake!”

“Until she fully recovers her memory, don't tell her too much about the past, and don't mention Verna. I don't want to shatter this brief moment of peace.”

Myron scoffed and got into the car. “You mean the kind of happiness that comes from deceiving yourself, right?”

Steven didn't reply. He walked around the front of the car, got in, and drove toward the parking lot.
