I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 684

I didn’t deny it, so he said, “I’ll go with you.”

His legs weren’t injured, but his shoulders, back, and arms were in bad shape. The blood loss meant he couldn’t walk for too long, but after several days of bed rest, he was much better. As long as he didn’t do any strenuous stretching, a simple walk would be fine.

I didn’t see a problem with it. Once Steven had changed, we went downstairs together.

The wind was strong on the ground floor. He draped a jacket over my shoulders and held my hand tightly as we walked in the evening breeze, just like any other couple deep in love.

I led him to the place the nurse had mentioned, and sure enough, Linda was there. She swept her long hair back and gave a wry smile. “My god, seeing you is harder than getting an audience with the queen.”

With our sudden accident, no one except the most trusted individuals could get near Steven until his condition stabilized, which naturally meant no one could get near me either.

I guessed Linda hadn't tried asking Myron for help, or if she had, she'd been refused.

Steven glanced at me but said nothing.

I thanked Linda, and she slipped me a note with Mr. Taylor’s number on it. After a few brief words, she was ready to leave.

I invited her to stay for dinner, but Linda just laughed. “No thanks. You belong exclusively to Mr. Lancaster right now. Why would I want to crash your date? I have no interest in being a thousand-watt third wheel. I’m off. Call me if you need anything.”

She grabbed her bag and sauntered away on her high heels.

Steven stood beside me and asked in an unreadable tone, “You remember Mr. Taylor?”

“No, Linda told me about him. She said I’m a very talented designer and that I was his apprentice,” I said, unfolding the note. It had Linda’s number as well as Mr. Taylor’s. I looked up at Steven, my eyes bright with a smile. “I need a phone, so I can contact people.”

Steven answered calmly, “I’ll have Gordon bring one over later.”

I beamed. He then asked, “Why do you want to contact Mr. Taylor?”

“Well, your friend doesn’t want me, so I have to find a job, don’t I? I can’t just be a freeloader, living off of you.”

His brow furrowed. “What’s wrong with that? I can afford to support you.”

“I have hands and feet. I don’t need you to support me.”

I had been focused on taking care of Steven all this time because he needed me. And agreeing to get back together was for my own emotional needs. It didn’t mean I was going to become dependent on him for the rest of my life.

Steven’s face fell instantly.

I reached out and playfully pinched his cheek. “You’re not getting angry again, are you? Grumpy cat. Does me wanting to support myself really make you angry?”
