I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 710

I looked at Steven and shook my head without hesitation.

I had just regained my memory, and while I had so many questions, a nagging premonition told me that revealing the dreams about my five past lives to Steven would lead to something terrible.

He seemed a little disappointed, but a faint smile still graced his handsome face as he squeezed my hand tightly. “I'll get you something to eat. You lost a lot of blood when you fell down the stairs; you need to build your strength back up.”

I didn't refuse.

Whether he was the child's father or not, I was pushed down those stairs because his father's men were chasing me. It nearly cost me and my baby our lives, so the least he could do was dote on me.

Steven brought back an array of delicious, beautifully prepared food, and I polished it all off without a word. He just sat beside me, watching me quietly, his gaze so intense and searing it felt like he was trying to pierce my soul and analyze every part of me.

I couldn't stand it anymore. I put down my fork and looked up at Steven.

“Why are you just sitting there watching me eat? Don't you have your own work to do? Now that you've expanded your business, shouldn't you be busy?”

Steven sat up straight, his gaze unwavering. “You're more important than anything else.”

“I'd appreciate it if you'd focus on finishing the three tasks I gave you instead of sweet-talking me.”

He seemed to hesitate, his handsome brows furrowing.

“Once I finish these three things, you're not just going to kick me to the curb, are you?”

“Am I that kind of person?”

Steven's thin lips pressed into a line. “You've done it more than once.”

He was remembering how I’d talked a good game about settling down and living a quiet life together, only to turn around and sell his project to his biggest rival.

I'd promised to give him a chance, but the next thing he knew, I was already packed and ready to leave.

Now I was saying I might stay, but who knew if I would just take off again.

I suspected I'd messed with his head so much he was traumatized, with his trust in me worn down to almost nothing. He seemed to be racking his brain for ways to keep us entangled, growing restless the moment things felt settled.

As I met his dark, deep eyes, I felt like I was looking at my past self.

The one who had been driven mad by his distance and coldness.

Heartbroken and hysterical.
