I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 722

I threw back the covers to get out of bed, but Steven's hand shot out and pressed me back down. He frowned. "The doctor said you need to rest."

He paused, his gaze dropping to my stomach, his expression growing more serious. "You promised you wouldn't get upset. Think about the baby."

I sneered. "Steven, did you suddenly go deaf? She just called me a villainess, and you're telling me not to be angry? What, do you think I'm some pushover you can just insult and walk all over?"

This man might look concerned on the surface, but who knew if he wasn't just protecting Verna? Too bad for him, my memories were back, and I wasn't so easy to fool anymore.

Steven's gaze softened slightly. "What I mean is, whatever you want to do, you can have him do it. You don't need to get your hands dirty. It would break my heart if you got hurt."

I glanced up and met Thomas's ingratiating, almost comical smile. He looked ready to take orders at any moment.

It hit me then—he was probably the one who'd beaten Verna's face. Men... they were all the same.

Still, since Steven had made the offer, I wasn't going to be polite.

"I think her face could use a bit more color. At least double what's already there."

The room fell silent. Thomas's face twisted into a pained expression, and he stood frozen in place.

I leaned back against the headboard, giving Steven a meaningful look. "It seems he's not willing."

I wanted to see what Steven would do now.

The air grew tense, as if time itself had frozen.
