I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 723

At my words, Thomas flinched. His eyes widened as he stared at me, as if he couldn't believe I'd say such a thing.

I just smiled serenely and continued to watch.

Verna turned her gaze to Steven, as if still hoping he would help her, but he was completely focused on the apple he was peeling, acting as if none of this concerned him.

"For goodness' sake, just apologize and beg for mercy," Thomas urged Verna, seeing she was getting no help. "She's not someone you can mess with. Don't make things harder on yourself."

His voice was just loud enough for me to hear.

This was nothing. It was clear Thomas didn't know Verna well enough. She was stubborn, especially with me. In her mind, she was the heroine, the special one—why would she ever bow down to a villainess like me?

But that suited me just fine. What was an apology worth? I wanted her to feel the pain, to learn that I was not to be trifled with.

As expected, Verna didn't disappoint. She glared at me, her eyes filled with a ferocity that could tear me apart.

"Why should I apologize to her?! Zephyra, you're a jinx! You and the baby in your belly can go to hell—"

Before she could finish, a dull thud echoed as Steven kicked Verna, sending her sprawling. Thomas, who was still holding her collar, couldn't keep his grip and stumbled a few steps before regaining his balance. The force Steven had used was immense.

Verna hit the ground hard and curled into a ball, the arrogance in her eyes replaced by pure terror.

She deserved it.

A part of me was pleased, but I was also shocked that Steven had reacted so violently. Then again, it made sense—no father would stand by and listen to someone curse his unborn child.
