After not having it for so long, this cake tasted exceptionally good. I devoured two slices and still wanted more, but as I reached to cut another, Steven stopped me. “You’re pregnant. You can’t eat too much of this.”
His handsome brow furrowed with a hint of worry. Before I could say anything, he continued, “I’ve already placed another order, so you’ll get to have it again soon. Let’s share the rest with the staff.”
I looked at the remaining cake, a little less than half, and though I was reluctant, I held back. He was right; we should share it.
I was completely satisfied after eating, but I didn't expect to start feeling unwell the next day.
I seriously suspected Steven had jinxed me. That man had left for work early in the morning, and I threw up right after breakfast.
Tess quickly brought me a glass of water to rinse my mouth. “Ma'am, should I get you some medicine?”
I waved my hand. “No, it's fine. I haven't had much sugar in a long time, so I probably just ate too much yesterday and upset my stomach.”
Tess gently patted my back. “I’ll call Mr. Lancaster and ask him to come back.”
I grabbed her hand. “Don't. He must have something urgent to deal with at the office.”
Even though Steven always said he wasn't busy, I knew better. A massive company like Aether Studio wasn't easy to manage, with difficult shareholders and other members of the Lancaster family watching his every move, ready to pounce on any mistake.
As much as I liked to argue with him, I never wanted to cause trouble for his company.
I was a bit stunned. Tess didn't look old, but she spoke with the wisdom of someone much older.
After everything I’d been through, I did feel that nothing in life was truly important except for death.
But I didn't want the exhaustion that came with it. If Steven was really the hero and my role was the villainess, then being with him would undoubtedly bring a lot of trouble. All I wanted was to raise my child in peace.
“Yes, I understand what you’re saying. It’s just that some things aren't that simple.”
The whole reincarnation thing was too unbelievable. If I hadn't experienced it myself, I wouldn’t believe it if someone told me about it either.
