I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 770

Tess nodded thoughtfully at my words and didn’t press further.

I felt much better after being sick, so I went to the living room to watch some videos on early childhood education. As I was watching, the doorbell rang.

The villa was surrounded by bodyguards, so whoever it was must have been stopped and escorted here.

I was curious who it could be. As I stood up, Tess, who was cooking in the kitchen, came out.

“You can rest, Ma'am. I'll go see who it is.”

I shook my head. “It's fine. I've been sitting for a while. I could use a walk.”

At the main gate, I saw two bodyguards standing on either side of a woman in a dress who had her back to me.

When the guards saw me, they bowed respectfully. “Ma'am, you have a visitor.”

As they spoke, the woman turned around. “Zephyra, long time no see.”

Verna!

My gaze naturally fell to her hand, which was wrapped in a thick layer of gauze. It looked like she’d just had surgery.

Noticing my displeased expression, one of the bodyguards quickly explained, “Ma'am, she said she's a good friend of yours and Mr. Lancaster's, so I brought her in. If you don't want to see her, I'll remove her immediately.”

Verna instantly exploded. “Do you have any idea what you're saying? I'm the one who should be living here! I'm your real mistress! Zephyra is just squatting here for now, but sooner or later, things will go back to the way they should be!”

The two bodyguards exchanged a look as if Verna were an idiot.

One of them looked at me. “Ma'am, we’ll get her out of here right now.”

I glanced at Verna, who looked like she wanted to eat me alive. “It’s fine. You two can wait over there. I'll talk to her for a minute.”

With the iron gate between us, Verna couldn't do anything to me.

The bodyguards moved aside, and Tess stood next to me, eyeing Verna warily. “Ma'am, should I stay with you?”

“It’s alright, I’ll be back inside in a moment.”

Verna was spouting nonsense, and I was genuinely worried she would say something crazy that would get us investigated.

Tess brought a chair out for me and then waited a short distance away.

After I sat down, I looked at Verna. “Alright, what do you want?”

I didn't believe in some predetermined plot. Even if there was only a one percent chance, I would fight for myself. No matter the outcome, at least I would have tried and wouldn't have any regrets.

But Verna didn't want to do anything. She just wanted to rely on her supposed 'heroine's luck' to get everything she wanted.

Verna glared at me viciously. “Don't lecture me, Zephyra. You're the one who stole everything from me. All of this was supposed to be mine. You have to give it all back!”

I smirked. “If you insist on putting it that way, then I’m sorry, but this 'villainess' is keeping it all. If you want it, go talk to Steven and have him tell me himself.”

Verna flew into a rage. “Zephyra, how could you? None of this is yours! You won't get a happy ending by taking what isn't yours!”

A smile played on my lips. “Is that so? It’s a shame, isn't it? A villainess like me can get everything so easily, while a heroine like you gets nothing. It’s actually quite pathetic when you think about it.”

At my words, Verna’s usual gentle demeanor vanished, her eyes filled with murderous intent. “Zephyra, you…”

Before she could finish, I continued, “Verna, you should really take a good look at yourself. Maybe it’s because you’re such a useless heroine that a villainess like me ended up with everything.”

Verna’s grip on the gate tightened, her knuckles turning white from the force.

“Don’t get too comfortable, Zephyra. Being with you will bring Steven nothing but ruin. He keeps defying the plot to help you, again and again. It's already sealed his fate…”
