I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 854

Hearing that, I froze, repeating her words numbly, “What did you just say?”

Rachel said casually, “I said she must have kidnapped you to get to Steven. Otherwise, even if he fell out of love with you, he wouldn’t move on this fast.”

It was a classic case of not seeing the forest for the trees. I had been so caught up in the news of their marriage that I hadn’t considered the most obvious explanation.

If Queena needed me to force the marriage, it meant I was safe for now. But after they were married, all bets were off. Knowing her, she wouldn’t let me live, nor would she let me give birth to Steven’s child.

I had to find a way to get out of here before then.

I hadn’t even finished one cookie when the door was thrown open. I flinched, seeing Nelson holding up a phone, pointing it at me.

He kept shifting the angle, as if he were recording a video. “What are you—”

Before I could finish, a deep, hoarse male voice came from the phone. “Zephyra, how are you?”

Nelson cut the sound before the sentence was complete.

So it was a video call.

I looked at the wall behind me. “I’m fine. This place is nice, too.”

As soon as I said it, Nelson lowered the phone, turned, and left without another word.

Rachel, her mouth full of cookie crumbs, asked, “Zephyra, I thought you were going to tell him to come rescue us.”

I didn’t answer.

I didn’t say anything because I realized the distinctive style of the wall could be a clue for Steven. In an older neighborhood like this one seemed to be, most renovations followed a similar pattern.
