Daniel had texted someone on his phone a moment earlier.

Alice’s new hospital room was already set up and ready.

He said softly, “Alice, this room doesn’t even have a TV. Nina can’t watch her cartoons.

“I’m not comfortable sitting here either.

“Just do it for Nina and me, okay? Let’s move to a nicer room.”

His voice was warm and gentle.

Alice didn’t argue after hearing him.

She nodded and signed “thank you” with her one free hand.

Then she smiled at Daniel.

Her eyes, when she smiled, were pure and sweet.

Daniel couldn’t help falling for her even harder.

Soon, they moved into the new room. It was a small suite.

It wasn’t huge, but it had a fridge, a sofa, and a TV-as good as it got in a hospital.

As soon as they walked in, Alice handed Nina the remote to watch her favorite cartoons.

Nina sat quietly watching TV. Daniel took the quiet moment to lean his head on Alice’s shoulder, acting soft to get her to comfort him.

He said he’d been scared.

He’d been terrified when he heard Alice was in the hospital.

To prove he meant it, Daniel took Alice’s left hand and pressed it to his chest.

Alice’s cheeks turned pink. She kept glancing at Nina, scared the little girl would see.

Daniel was being way too clingy, and his words were super cheesy.

Alice couldn’t speak, but she opened her mouth a few times in panic as Daniel clung to her.

“I’m not like that. Baby, honey-I wanna call you that all the time.”

As he smiled at Alice, he couldn’t help teasing Benjamin, joking about how unromantic Benjamin was.

Then he bragged about how much he loved Alice.

Alice had had enough.

She pulled her hand free and covered Daniel’s mouth.

The next second, Daniel kissed her palm.

Alice let out a quiet, muffled sound.

She was shocked she’d made a noise at all.

Nina looked up at her and babbled, “Honee, talk?”

Alice stared at Nina, completely confused-even more than when she’d heard her own voice.

Daniel was still grinning from ear to ear.

Nina called her “honee” again.

Alice was stunned, feeling something was off.

She didn’t respond to Nina; instead, she reached out and tugged hard on Daniel’s shirt.

Alice pulled at him several times before he looked over, still excited. “What’s wrong? You’re happy, too, right? I called Shaun. He’ll be here soon.”

Nina, who got no answer from Alice, looked up at Daniel. “Un-coo Danel.”

Daniel looked down and smiled, “Right here, sweetie.”
