Chapter 60 Playing the Poor Guy

The disparity between the two was strikingly evident.

Amelia had never harbored any aspirations of climbing the social ladder.

“I’ll take Nina to change her clothes,” Amelia murmured, her eyes downcast, before scooping up the little girl and making her way off.

Once in the room, Nina plopped onto the bed and lay still as Amelia swapped out her soiled diaper.

Still in the toddler stage, Nina still wore one at night, and sometimes during the day, too.

“Baby, how come you haven’t pooped?”

Amelia fretted, wrinkling her nose as she felt Nina’s little belly, which was round and firm, as if stuffed with all sorts of things.

Just as Amelia was about to probe further, antsy Nina wriggled to get up.

Amelia grabbed her pudgy legs, pulled her back, slipped on a fresh diaper, then a cute little dress, and hoisted her up.

“Mommy, out, play,” Nina pleaded, having caught wind of the plan earlier and now eager to explore the outside world.

“Hold your horses, sweetie. First, we’ll have breakfast, and then we’ll head out,” Amelia soothed, tweaking Nina’s chubby cheek.

“We’re going to see Aaron today, so you gotta be a polite little girl, okay? Megan sent a gift for him that landed at my place. I’ve also picked up a few things for him,” Amelia explained.

The person Amelia mentioned was exactly Megan’s boyfriend, Aaron Wade.

A struggling artist who hadn’t yet made a name for himself, he relied entirely on Megan’s support.

Megan hailed from a well-to-do family, but a rift had long since driven a wedge between her and her kin. The funds she used to spoil Aaron were entirely the fruit of her own labor, earned through multiple gigs.

Aaron put up a fight when she proposed going to Gemnison, but her resolve was unshakable, and off she

went.

Those years in Gemnison were a whirlwind, Megan was a woman on a mission, balancing the demands of her studies with the grind of her jobs, all while making sure a steady stream of cash reached Aaron.

She was completely smitten, pouring her entire self into the relationship.

Amelia, initially skeptical of Aaron, found herself in a bind. With Megan head over heels in love, all she could do was keep her reservations to herself and offer quiet blessings.

She knew how hard Megan had it, so whenever she had a bit of extra cash, she’d pick up something for

Aaron.

Nina seemed to recognize the name.

She nodded vigorously, forgetting all about breakfast and fixated on going out.

Amelia wasn’t having it. She carried Nina to the dining area.

Amelia had the address of the swanky mansion where Aaron was working that day, as Megan had informed her.

“Aaron’s got a real big ego. He’s probably feeling lousy about having to work there. Could you drop off the gift and let Nina keep him company? He just adores our little Nina,” Megan had pleaded.

What could Amelia do? She had to oblige.

“Nina, eat your breakfast, okay?” Amelia coaxed as she spoon-fed the reluctant Nina.

Meanwhile, at the opulent mansion, Aaron was shooting the breeze with a bunch of his mates.

Mia stood out as the one with the closest bond to Aaron. Watching him slip a wooden-hued bracelet onto his wrist, with a sneer, she said, “You still haven’t called it quits with that dumb broad? Word on the street is she’s working her fingers to the bone, washing dishes in some foreign joint to rake in cash for you.

“Aaron, when are you gonna knock off this act of playing the poor guy? It’s getting old.”

Aaron narrowed his eyes at her snide remarks. “When I’m done with this little game, well, that’s up to you. Just say the word, agree to go out with me, and I’ll dump her faster than you can blink. Truth is, I’m kinda bored with her after all these years.”

“Piss off! Quit pulling my leg,” Mia snapped, rolling her eyes in annoyance.

She was not about to fall for Aaron’s antics.

Aaron’s first love passed away, but she still lingered in his heart like a shadow.

That was why the women he was involved with always shared something in common with her.

Megan’s selfless dedication to him was just like that of his lost love.

And Mia? Well, her face shape was a dead ringer for his first love.

So, it was no wonder Aaron kept chatting up Mia like this now and then.

Mia knew all about his messy past, so there was no way she’d date him.

In her book, Benjamin was the ideal man.
