Claudia calmly observed the crowd's shocked reactions before pulling her sleeve up a little higher.
York's deep eyes couldn't hide his heartache.
Ignoring the discomfort in his body, he walked up to Claudia again. "Who did this?"
Claudia didn't answer him. Instead, she looked toward Sherlyn.
Following her gaze, York's sharp eyes narrowed dangerously as he looked at Sherlyn.
With an innocent expression, Claudia addressed the onlookers. "Mrs. Quinn was gripping my arm so tightly that it hurt. I tried to pull away, but she just squeezed harder. That's when I accidentally pushed her over."
"You're lying!"
Sherlyn hadn't expected Claudia to turn the accusation back on her.
She leaned weakly against her husband, pointing at Claudia. "I didn't grab you at all! You resent my niece Ann, and you deliberately pushed me, trying to make me miscarry!"
Claudia maintained her innocent look and retorted, "Mrs. Quinn, I admit that Ann and I have our differences, but I didn't know you before this. I certainly didn't know Ann was your niece."
"Are you suggesting," Claudia continued, "that I would deliberately bruise myself like this, in a place with security cameras, just to frame a complete stranger?"
Sherlyn was truly stunned that Claudia would pull such a move. She had already made her identity clear in the first-floor ballroom, but this Claudia was remarkably composed, pretending in front of everyone that she had no idea about her connection to the James family. For a moment, Sherlyn was speechless.
Claudia took a step forward, closing the distance between them.
"Mrs. Quinn," she said, "you knew I was Mr. Gideon's guest, yet you maliciously slandered me and tried to frame me. Your actions risk creating a rift between the Quinn and Harvest families. What is your real motive?"
Before Sherlyn could respond, Gideon spoke up. "Mr. Quinn, has the Harvest family offended you in some way?"
The head of the Quinn family quickly tried to smooth things over. "Mr. Gideon, what are you saying? The Quinn and Harvest families have always been on excellent terms. This is all just a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding."
