York stopped in his tracks. "Mr. Quinn, what's so urgent this early in the morning?"
Hamlin glanced at Mark, who stood beside York, and braced himself. "Mr. Ferguson, regarding Miss James... I'm asking you to please show some mercy."
York let out a cold scoff. "Show her mercy? On what grounds?"
Hamlin stood before York, bowing slightly. "Mr. Ferguson, if you spare Miss James this time, I guarantee she will never appear before you again. I will personally compensate for any losses incurred by the Ferguson Group."
With his hands in his pockets, York looked down at Hamlin. "You seem awfully concerned about Miss James, Mr. Quinn, helping her out of trouble time and time again. Could it be that her theft of the Ferguson Group's confidential documents has something to do with you?"
A cold sweat broke out on Hamlin's back. He waved his hands frantically. "Mr. Ferguson, please don't misunderstand. Miss James is the niece of a friend."
York's patience wore thin. "As long as you're not involved, Mr. Quinn."
Hamlin watched York enter the elevator, then turned and hurried away from the Ferguson Group building.
After exiting the elevator, York made a call to Darleen.
An hour later, at Grandview Estates.
Selene was at home, anxiously fretting over Ann's situation, when Hamlin walked in.
She rushed to meet him. "How did it go? Did Mr. Ferguson agree to drop the charges?"
Hamlin was annoyed. "I told you before, York is not someone to be trifled with. Your niece just had to provoke him."
Seeing his reaction, Selene sank onto the sofa in despair.
Hamlin warned her, "The last time I helped your niece, I not only lost sixty million but also a plot of land in the east side of the city. This time, Mr. Ferguson is determined to teach her a lesson. I can't help you."
