No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 638

Claudia's mind exploded. She quickly ducked her head, staring at the floor.

That night.

Darleen had called her, ecstatic that Ann had been thrown in jail, and insisted they have a celebratory drink over video chat.

She had asked Gideon to join, and they had chatted and drank with Darleen, accidentally overdoing it.

So it wasn't just her and Gideon who had slept together that night.

That Ann, she thought, really knows how to cause trouble.

Peter had always doted on Darleen, his affection for her since childhood practically boundless. Darleen, Claudia mused, was truly fortunate.

York sat beside her, his deep-set eyes tracking her every move. He could see the guilt written all over her face.

And seeing her guilt, York felt a strange, inexplicable panic welling up inside him. He didn't know why, but his heart was in turmoil.

Claudia reached for a glass of wine, but York placed a glass of juice by her hand instead.

She glanced at him, picked up the juice, and stood. "Peter, Darleen, congratulations."

Darleen walked over and clinked her glass against Claudia's. "So, Claudia," she asked, "when are you and my brother going to reschedule your wedding?"

Peter shot his sister a warning look, but Darleen pretended not to see it.

She knew something was wrong between her brother and Claudia. But Claudia had pursued him for so many years, pouring her heart out to Darleen about her feelings. Darleen knew better than anyone how much Claudia loved him and wanted to marry him. And her brother... he had been beaten so badly for wanting to marry Claudia, then fought so hard with their family after the wedding was canceled. She could sense he had feelings for Claudia, too.

Claudia was completely caught off guard by Darleen's brazen question and didn't know how to respond. The lively atmosphere in the room instantly grew cold.

From his seat on the sofa, York watched Claudia’s reaction, his expression darkening.

Seeing her look of distress, his eyes grew dim. "Darleen," he chided his sister, "watch your manners."

Gideon walked straight to York and extended his hand. "Mr. Ferguson, it's been a while."

York stood and shook his hand. The two men locked eyes, a palpable tension crackling between them.

Claudia was speechless, internally screaming. Ever since that night, Gideon had been dropping 'bold' statements here and there. She was terrified of what he might say.

York sat back down, his face a mask of indifference.

Gideon turned to Rae Blake, who was sitting next to Claudia. "Excuse me, would you mind if I took this seat?"

Rae, wearing the expression of someone thoroughly enjoying the drama, glanced at Claudia and quickly got up.

Gideon smiled gently at Claudia. "Dr. Watkins, please, have a seat."

Claudia looked at the expectant faces around her, then at York on her left, and then at Gideon on her right. All she wanted to do was run.
