Hamlin Quinn helped his mother into her room.
“Mom, you get some rest. That old hag already found out Ann’s address abroad. I have to send Ann out of the country right away so she can go take care of Aelene and the baby.”
That same evening, Hamlin personally drove Ann to the airport.
He had prepared a new phone for her and gave her Selene’s contact information and address.
“I’ve had your past history wiped clean,” Hamlin told her. “Your new ID says you’re unmarried with no children. I had them keep your dance degree from Capital Arts University, and for the past few years, you’ve been studying at the Caledon College of the Arts. Your graduation certificate will be mailed to you next week.”
“From now on,” Hamlin continued, “as long as you never mention your past, no one will ever know.”
Ann was so moved she was on the verge of tears.
With this brand-new identity, she would never have to fear anyone finding out she had been married. She would never have to worry about that child becoming a burden.
She was now a pure, innocent university student from a humble background.
She was a top student who had completed her studies abroad through her own hard work.
This new identity was her stepping stone into the world of the rich and powerful.
—
It was just after eight in the evening.
Darleen Ferguson dropped Claudia Watkins off at her apartment building and saw Gideon Harvest waiting downstairs.
Claudia quickly got out of the car.
Seeing Darleen gripping the steering wheel and staring at Gideon, unwilling to leave, Claudia prompted her, “Stop staring and get going.”
Darleen had no choice but to drive away.
“Gideon, what are you doing here again?”
As Claudia greeted him, she discreetly glanced toward the elevators.
Gideon walked up to her. “My sister-in-law brought back a lot of local specialties from Caledon. I was in the neighborhood, so I thought I’d drop some off for your parents.”
Claudia caught the scent of men’s cologne on him.
Their eyes met.
Claudia turned her head, avoiding his gaze. “If you don’t leave now, I’ll have my father break your legs!”
Gideon couldn’t help but lean even closer, whispering in her ear, “Just be sure to spare the leg that knows how to make you happy.”
Cursing him silently, Claudia pushed Gideon away and ran into the elevator, covering her ears.
Gideon stood his ground, a smile tugging at his lips as he watched Claudia glare at him from inside the elevator.
The moment the doors closed, Claudia took a deep breath and patted her chest vigorously.
For such a serious, proper man to drop a raunchy line like that every now and then… he was going to give her a heart attack.
She couldn’t even imagine how she was supposed to interact with him at the hospital after the New Year.
After everything with York Ferguson, all she had wanted was to focus on her career.
Then she’d unexpectedly slept with Gideon.
