Claudia's parents exchanged a look. Jessica pulled Felix out onto the balcony.
"Doesn't Claudia's colleague look a bit familiar?" Jessica asked. She then voiced her suspicion, "Do you think Claudia has a boyfriend?"
The Watkins family business had collapsed years ago, and they were long removed from the circles of the elite, so Felix had no memory of Gideon.
"When Claudia canceled the wedding with York, she said she was still young and wanted to focus on her career for a couple of years, that she wasn't ready to get married yet. We're probably overthinking it," Felix said.
Jessica thought so too. "This new guy seems nice, but I still think York is a better match for Claudia."
Felix sighed. "No matter how much we like York, it's up to the two of them to feel the same way."
...
Upstairs on the second floor, Claudia guiltily dragged Gideon into her room. The Harvest family was incredibly wealthy; the house Gideon lived in was surely luxurious beyond compare. Her two-story apartment couldn't possibly impress him. He was clearly doing this on purpose.
"Gideon," Claudia said, "are you going to use the bathroom or not?"
Gideon's eyes landed on a photo of Claudia on her nightstand. He strolled slowly around the room. "It smells so nice in here. Just like a girl's room should."
Gideon's comment sent a jolt through Claudia. She blocked his path, wishing she had some tape to seal his mouth shut.
"Gideon," she said, her face stern, "can you please just shut your mouth and behave?"
Gideon's deep eyes stared into hers. He leaned in slowly. "If I behave, will I get a reward?"
His gaze was like a hook, making Claudia's heart pound wildly. She backed away nervously, but Gideon advanced, step for step. It wasn't until the back of her legs hit the edge of the bed and she sat down that Gideon finally stopped.
