Convinced he was lying, Dr. Wanda shot back, “If she won’t come, it means she doesn’t exist! You’re just making excuses!”

Gideon replied coolly, “On our wedding day, you and your father are welcome to join us for a celebratory drink.”

“Gideon, you!” Dr. Wanda fumed.

“Out of respect for your father, I won’t pursue this further,” Gideon said. “Pack your things. You don’t need to come to the hospital tomorrow.”

Outside the door, Claudia shrank back as she watched Gideon sternly reject the doctor’s advances. Gideon was usually so gentle and gentlemanly, never pulling rank with his colleagues. She hadn't expected him to have such a fierce side.
