Claudia met Jackie’s sly gaze and immediately shook her head and waved her hands in denial.
Why did everyone in the Harvest family stare so intently? Gideon did it, Fidelia did it, and now Jackie was doing it too.
Just then, Dr. Wanda emerged from the office. Jackie quickly pulled Claudia back a few steps.
Seeing Jackie, Dr. Wanda's expression changed instantly. “Mrs. Harvest.”
Jackie pulled a tissue from her purse and handed it to the crying woman. “Dr. Wanda, what’s wrong?”
Dr. Wanda didn’t hide anything. “Mrs. Harvest, our families had hoped to set me up with Gideon. I made a move, and not only did he reject me, but he also fired me.”
Jackie took Dr. Wanda’s hand and said with grave sincerity, “You are beautiful, your family background is excellent, and you’re highly educated. You’d be better off with a mule than our Gideon.”
Dr. Wanda was speechless. “…?”
Claudia was also at a loss for words. “…”
“Don’t be fooled by Gideon’s appearance,” Jackie continued. “He’s not a great catch. At his age, he’s never had a woman by his side. Think about it. Really think about it.”
Jackie’s words left Dr. Wanda stunned and confused.
Could Gideon have some hidden medical issue? Was he impotent? Or perhaps he was a pervert hiding behind a gentlemanly facade? Or maybe… he didn’t even like women?
As her mind raced with possibilities, her gaze suddenly landed on Claudia. “Dr. Watkins, what are you doing here?”
Claudia was Gideon’s junior, and Gideon had personally handled her job placement and promotion. Her father was a director at Westminster General Hospital, a fact that, while unknown to others, wouldn’t have escaped her notice. Could Gideon’s so-called “fiancée” be… Claudia?
Before Claudia could answer, Jackie cut in sharply, “I brought Dr. Watkins to Gideon’s office to check my pulse. Is there a problem, Dr. Wanda?”
Claudia carefully checked Jackie’s pulse. It was steady and regular, not too faint or too strong—perfectly healthy.
Claudia stood up. “Mrs. Harvest, you’re in excellent health. If it’s just trouble sleeping, I suggest you try cutting out strong tea and coffee for four hours before bed.”
“If you’re free this weekend, Dr. Watkins, you should come visit us at the Harvest estate,” Jackie said.
Claudia glanced nervously at Gideon and quickly refused. “Thank you, Mrs. Harvest, but I have other plans this weekend.”
With that excuse, Claudia made a swift exit from Gideon’s office.
The moment the door closed, Jackie dropped her act.
She pointed a finger at Gideon, her expression one of pure disdain. “You’re not as smart as your second brother Benton or as handsome as your eldest Kenny. If you don’t hurry up and bring a wife home, are you expecting me to conjure one up for you?”
