The Abandoned Heiress Reborn to Be Cherished (Seraphina) novel Chapter 264

Seraphina glared at the person sitting at her bedside. Cold enough to freeze, her piercing stare softened slightly as recognition set in. The frost in her gaze faded, replaced by a blank, detached calm, like the still surface of a lifeless pond.

He’s been found. Rest for now,Jason stated, his voice steady but gentle, offering her a flicker of hope.

A slight spark flickered in her dull eyes. She moved to sit up, intent on leaving the bed, but strong hands stopped her gently but firmly.

He’s not going anywhere. Focus on getting better,” Jason assured, gently tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear.

Okay,Seraphina replied, her voice low and resigned.

What do you feel like eating?Jason asked.

Congee,she answered simply.

Her body felt weak and fragile, worn out from days of depending on nutrient injections, longing for even the most basic nourishment.

Jason quickly made a call, giving concise instructions, before settling into his place at her side and silently keeping watch.

Twenty minutes later, Grady arrived with a stylish food container, set it on the bedside table, and departed silently. Jason opened it to find the warm aroma of freshly cooked congee wafting through the air.

As Seraphina reached out for the spoon, Jason intercepted her. He took a tiny scoop, blew on it to cool it down, and held it up to her lips.

She gazed at the spoon, uncertain and adrift thought.

It’s not hot,” Jason reassured her gently.

She shook her head slightly. Don’t show me kindness.”

Her voice carried the weight of guilt. She had convinced herself that anyone who cared for her would end up hurt.

Jason held her gaze firmly. Open your mouth.”

Seraphina didn’t move.

Without warning, Jason guzzled a sip of the congee. Next, he moved closer and pressed his warm lips to hers while his hand cradled the back of her head.

Seraphina froze, her mind going blank. She didn’t pull away, too stunned to react. By the time her hands moved to push him off, Jason had already pulled back.

He studied her face, noticing the faint blush creeping into her pale cheeks and the slight spark of life returning to her eyes.

Youshe began, her voice shaky, but Jason interrupted.

Stop overthink it. What happened wasn’t your fault. You’re not allpowerful, little one. You can’t control everything.

Then, with a slight smirk, he added, Now, eat.

At the word eat,Seraphina visibly tensed, her expression akin to a child resisting medicine.

Jason sighed, amused and exasperated. He scooped another spoonful, cooled it, and gently brought it to her lips again.

This time, she hesitantly parted her lips and ate.

When the bowl was empty, Jason gave her a soft smile. Good girl.

He reached out and ran his fingers through her hair, his touch light and calming.

Seraphina’s conflicted gaze shifted between Jason’s hand and his face. Jason, I mean it. Stop being nice to me.

Stop being ridiculous,he replied with a quiet chuckle.

Seraphina closed her eyes, retreating into herself. She couldn’t risk letting him or anyone else get caught in the mess she felt she carried with her.
