The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 169

Elias's gaze deepened. He felt a strange pang in his chest, as if he had been stung by something sharp.

"You're allergic to pollen. Why didn't you say so?" he asked after a moment of silence. But as the words left his mouth, he realized it wasn't that she didn't want to say it, but...

In their two years of marriage, he had never once given her flowers.

Even if she had wanted to tell him, she never had the chance.

The memories of their past felt like a series of slaps across Elias's face. He averted his gaze from Victoria, his voice dry as he said, "Get some rest. If you need anything, tell the bodyguards outside."

With that, Elias fled the room.

Victoria turned on her side, her back to the door. She vaguely heard the door open and Elias giving another order to the bodyguards, telling them not to let anyone near, especially Tobias.

She closed her eyes, and a single tear slipped from the corner.

Later that night.

The rain had stopped.

After leaving Victoria's room, Elias hadn't gone far. He was in his car, parked just below the hospital wing.

Jonah Chase got into the car, holding a freshly printed accident report. He handed it to Elias.

"The car went into a skid due to sudden braking at high speed, causing it to overturn. When it fell, the electrical wiring was damaged, which is why it short-circuited and caught fire as soon as it landed. By the time the fire department arrived and put out the flames, the car was just a burned-out frame."

"What about the forensic analysis of the scene?" Elias asked, flipping through a few pages of the report. The contents were largely consistent with the police's initial findings.

Jonah turned to Elias with a complicated expression. After a few seconds of silence, he said, "Elias, under these circumstances, whether there's a forensic analysis or not doesn't really matter."

The purpose of a forensic analysis was to determine if there was any chance of survival.

Grady's car had overturned at high speed and fallen from an overpass that was dozens, if not hundreds, of feet high. Even if the car hadn't caught fire, the person inside would have had almost no chance of survival.

And with a fire that intense, unless a miracle occurred, nothing was left of the body.

Elias knew this, of course.

He had only asked subconsciously, thinking of how Victoria had looked lying in the hospital bed earlier.

"What about the surveillance footage from the time of the incident?"

"The surveillance cameras on that stretch of road were coincidentally undergoing maintenance this week, so nothing was recorded," Jonah said, taking out a black USB drive. "But there was a car a few hundred meters behind Grady's. This was copied from its dashcam. It's a bit blurry, but it captured the entire incident."

Hearing this, Elias reached for the drive.

But Jonah suddenly clenched his fist around it. "Elias, this video is enough to prove that Grady was driving too fast. You can watch it, but given Victoria's current mental state, she definitely won't be able to accept this. I suggest you don't show it to her for now, to avoid upsetting her further."

"I know."
