“That’s not true. He’s lying. He’s the one who forced me to marry Henry, Elias…”
Genevieve’s defense was weak. Meeting Elias’s icy, emotionless eyes, her lips parted and closed several times, but she couldn’t utter another word.
Elias’s patience ran out. Seeing that Genevieve had no intention of revealing the clue, he uncrossed his long legs and stood up.
“Cooperate with the doctors. I have things to do, so I’ll be leaving.”
With that, he strode past her, heading for the door.
Genevieve knew that if Elias left this time, it would be incredibly difficult to see him again!
Her time was running out!
Although she could use the “mental breakdown” excuse to temporarily evade the police investigation, it wasn't a long-term solution. Right now, the case against Grady was based solely on Abbey Prescott’s testimony, which wasn't enough to form a solid chain of evidence. But there was no guarantee the police wouldn't find more evidence through other means, or that Abbey hadn't held something back…
She couldn’t go to jail!
If she went to jail, everything she had worked so hard for would truly be gone!
She hadn't become the revered Mrs. Shawn yet. She hadn't seen Victoria crushed beneath her heel. She couldn't lose!
Genevieve’s hands, hanging by her sides, clenched into fists as she stared at Elias’s back.
“If you walk out like this, don’t you want to know what the clue is?”
As expected, Elias stopped and turned back to look at her.
“…What is it?”
“Elias, don’t be in such a hurry. I’ll tell you. I was just… I was just so nervous earlier that I couldn’t remember. Just wait here, give me a moment to think, okay?”
A subtle smile touched Genevieve’s lips. She slowly walked toward him and reached out to take his hand. Noticing the blood seeping through the gauze on his right hand, her expression changed to one of concern.
Elias’s dark eyes narrowed instantly, a chilling glint of malice flashing within them. “What’s your connection to them?”
Not long ago, Jonah had turned practically all of Rivertown upside down and still couldn’t trace the person who had given Harry Brown the money and created fake identities for the mother and daughter, let alone find the pair themselves.
Jonah might seem unreliable on the surface, but he was one of the top three hackers in the world. There was no information or person he couldn’t find if he put his mind to it.
Yet, after three or four years, even Jonah had no leads. For Genevieve to claim she had found them now—it was impossible for there not to be something fishy going on.
Genevieve’s gaze flickered. She knew what Elias was implying and said hurriedly, “There’s no connection. I… I just happened to find them by chance.”
Afraid Elias wouldn’t believe her, she quickly made a swearing gesture and added, “Really. If I were truly connected to them, Elias, I… why would I have rushed in to save you five years ago? Wouldn't letting you die in that fire have been a better way to ensure there were no witnesses? Elias—”
“Where are they?”
Elias had no interest in her explanations. He cut her off coldly and demanded.
