The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 384

Victoria had been sitting in her car for nearly half an hour, still without a clue.

Grady’s case seemed to have reached an impasse.

For now, besides waiting—waiting for Abbey to remember something, or for Saul to find more evidence—there seemed to be no better option.

Victoria sighed softly, closed her laptop, and placed it on the passenger seat. Then she gently pressed the accelerator, preparing to head back to Willow Creek Estates.

Rumble, rumble—

The engine made a low, abnormal sound. The main console screen flickered, then went dark without warning.

Victoria frowned slightly, a bad feeling creeping into her mind.

Don’t tell me the car’s broken down again.

She tried to start it one more time, but now the main screen wouldn't even light up. No matter how she pressed the gas or the buttons on the console, the car didn't respond. It was completely dead.

Victoria’s eyelid twitched. She sat stunned for a moment before she was forced to accept reality.

Her “battle-hardened” BMW MINI had successfully broken down once again.

She expertly found the number for roadside assistance in her contacts, but just as she was about to dial, a sharp knock, knock came from the car window.

Victoria’s hand froze. She turned to look out the window, a flash of surprise in her eyes when she saw who it was.

She rolled down the window. “Assistant Hawk? What are you…”

Before she could finish, her peripheral vision caught two black sedans parked not far away.

Although they were inconspicuous Volkswagens, their license plates all began with 'SHA-CORP'.

Those were cars from The Shawn Group.

Victoria immediately recalled Elias asking her what she was doing today. Her lips thinned. She already understood why Hawk was here.

“Mr. Shawn instructed me to come see if there was anything I could do to help you, Miss Sanger.”

Hawk knew that once he appeared, he couldn't hide the fact that he'd been following her. So he didn't bother to be evasive and admitted it frankly.

Hawk glanced back, swallowed the words he was about to say, and continued driving in silence.

Whether it was because she was shaken from the skydiving or because she was preoccupied with the contents of that attachment, Victoria had several bizarre and fantastical dreams last night and hadn't slept well.

She had also driven for over half an hour from downtown to the detention center early in the morning.

Victoria’s energy was nearly depleted.

Not long after Hawk spoke to her, she felt a wave of drowsiness, leaned her head against the window, and intended to just rest her eyes.

But before she knew it, she had fallen asleep.

In her dream, the scene of Grady’s car crash and the image of Garnett collapsing in the hospital garden flashed alternately, as if an invisible hand were trying to push her off a bottomless cliff.

Suddenly, the window next to her was pounded on violently, as if someone were trying to shatter the glass.

“Get out! What’s the point of hiding in there like a coward? Get the hell out here! I’m telling you, if you don’t give me a satisfactory answer today, none of you are leaving this place!”
