"Victoria, what a coincidence to see you here." Genevieve finished speaking, then glanced at Tobias, a dark glint in her eyes. "I was just asking Elias if you would be at Mrs. Shawn's birthday party tonight. Right, Elias?"
Elias's gaze was heavy as he stared coldly at Victoria, saying nothing.
Victoria looked up, and when her eyes met his frosty, dark ones, her heart seemed to stop for a beat. The marks he had left on her body, still not faded, began to burn faintly, a stark reminder of their debauchery two days ago.
Genevieve's lips curved into a subtle smile as she asked pointedly, "Victoria, this must be a friend of yours, right? Aren't you going to introduce us?"
A friend?
A man and a woman, dining alone in such a quiet, intimate place. Who would believe they were just friends?
She knew Elias. He couldn't tolerate a single speck of dust in his eye, and Victoria on a date with another man was akin to throwing sand right in them.
Victoria shot a cold glance at Genevieve.
Meeting her gaze, Genevieve felt a pang of guilt, a feeling of being seen through.
"My name is Tobias. You could say I'm like an older brother to Victoria, we grew up together."
At his words, a malicious gleam flickered in Genevieve's eyes.
"Like an older brother?" she thought, "Victoria, let's see how you explain this to Elias!"
"Elias, do you know this Mr. Holt? I don't think I've ever heard Victoria mention him before. I can't believe Mr. Holt and Victoria are practically childhood sweethearts." Genevieve looked at Elias in feigned surprise, only to see him still staring intently at Victoria. The smile on her face stiffened, and her fingers tightened slightly. Dissatisfied, she called his name again softly.
Elias's gaze shifted slightly, landing on Tobias.
Tobias extended his hand. "Mr. Shawn, I didn't expect we'd meet again so soon."
Genevieve, who had been waiting to see how Victoria would explain herself, froze at his words.
She looked at Elias.
His eyes fell on Tobias's outstretched hand. After a long moment, he finally shook it, but released it almost immediately. He then turned to Victoria and commanded, "Tissue."
Victoria paused for a second before understanding. Without thinking, she pulled two tissues from the dispenser and handed them to him.
Elias took them and, right in front of everyone, began to slowly and deliberately wipe the hand that had just shaken Tobias's.
It was a blatant display of disgust.
Victoria's face fell. "Elias, you..."
