The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 254

Catherine had totally forgotten about it. And Lance... well, this was his way of handling things. She left Aaron on read, not sure how to even start replying.

It was still early, so she and Lorinda headed over to the orphanage.

“You two finally made it. That temp from last time just up and disappeared, didn’t even bother to say anything. I’ve been running around like crazy ever since,” Amanda complained, pointing at a heap of dirty clothes outside. “Catherine, go wash those, will you? It’s warm enough now, just use your hands. We need to save on the electric bill.”

“She’s pregnant, remember?” Lorinda interrupted.

Amanda hesitated, her face souring. “Right... forgot about that. Then you do it.”

“Not happening. I’m still breastfeeding,” Lorinda said, pulling Catherine toward the house. “We’re here to see Patty anyway. I’ll help you keep an eye on the other kids, but the laundry’s on you.”

Amanda huffed and stomped after them. “So now I’m the one doing chores at my age?”

Lorinda steered Catherine deeper inside. “You’re full of energy these days. Might as well use it somewhere. Otherwise what, you’re going to take it out on the kids when we’re gone?”

They slipped inside, and Lorinda shut the door behind them. Amanda was left standing outside, still hearing Lorinda’s words ringing in her ears. Her throat tightened, but she didn’t try to open the door.

Catherine watched through the window as Amanda headed out to wash the clothes.

She sat down next to Patty, taking her little hand. “How have you been lately, Patty?”

“Way better! I can eat, drink, and even play outside,” Patty said, looking so much healthier. Her head, which used to be bald, now had a soft fuzz of black hair.

Lorinda glanced out the window, then turned to Patty with a smile. “You’re doing that well? I thought the medicine made you lose your appetite.”

“I’m not taking it anymore,” Patty said, a rare smile lighting up her face. “Amanda told me I didn’t have to.”
