“You’re out of your mind if you think for a second I’m going to let my pregnant mate get into a death match with a lunatic,” Gavin said, his eyes blazing with fury as his wolf surged forward.
“Gavin, this is the only way that I can prove myself. If I can protect myself and our pup while defending against Lila and winning this match, it’ll prove that I’ll be a good enough Luna.”
I didn’t tell him that my magic literally told me to accept the challenge and that it would protect the baby and me.
“And you think putting our baby at risk is a good idea?” He asked, shaking his head. “I’m not going to stand by and let it happen.”
He opened the limo door; we were standing outside the party. Pretty much right after I accepted Lila’s challenge, we stormed out. Or rather, Gavin dragged us out.
Erik was already waiting for us when we got outside, which led me to believe that Gavin reached out to him just before we left.
“Get in the limo,” Gavin ordered, narrowing his eyes.
Irene and Nan were already seated in the limo, and Gavin and I stood outside for a bit longer, arguing without their prying ears. I saw a small vein appearing on Gavin’s neck… it only appeared there when he was over the limit with anger, and I felt awful that I was the reason for it.
I wished I could tell him that I would be protected during this fight, but I doubted he’d even believe me. I had no idea how to explain to him that the magic that swirled inside of me could somehow communicate with me and told me to accept the challenge.
“We’ll discuss this more at home,” Gavin said, his eyes narrowing even more as he glared at me. “Get in the limo,”
I opened my mouth to say something, but then my eyes caught something that made me freeze. I spotted Daisy standing around the corner from the front entrance. She was still naked and no longer carried the platter of drinks. She had her arms wrapped around her body and I could see the goosebumps on her flesh,
She was freezing and trying to cover herself with her arms. She looked pale and upset and it didn’t take me long to figure out why.
Right in front of her was Noah; he was glaring at her, displeased, and her head was downcast, her bottom lip wobbling.

He was saying something to her that I couldn’t hear, and then, without warning, he grabbed her arm roughly. She whimpered, and I saw tears forming in her eyes.
“Judy, we need to leave,” Gavin said again, trying to regain my attention.
My feet were moving before I could think better of it. I was going towards Daisy and Noah, my eyes fixed on her.
“Judy!” I heard Gavin shouting after me, his fury bubbling over.
“Then why is she still standing?? You didn’t serve her the drink,” Noah said sneered. “And because of you, she’s going to challenge my-”
Before he could get the next words out of his mouth, I grabbed his arm and yanked it until he released his hold on Daisy. I was surprised by my sudden level of strength, and the fact that he stepped back made me feel good inside, like I had some kind of advantage over him.
“Don’t touch her,” I said, pointing my finger at him; it crackled with power, which made his eyes widen. “I don’t know who you think you are, but just because your father is some powerful man, it doesn’t give you the right to be a dick to women.”
“This has nothing to do with you,” Noah hissed, his eyes never leaving my finger, which still crackled. “It’s between Daisy and me.”
“Well, I don’t think Daisy wants you speaking to her like this,” I said, lowering my finger and watching as his stance relaxed slightly. “Do you?” I asked her, my eyes shifting to Daisy’s pale face.
She swallowed, then glanced at Noah, her demeanor shrinking.
“Maybe we should talk somewhere else,” she said softly to him.
“Judy, let’s go,” Gavin said, and I hadn’t realized he was right behind me, so I startled at the sound of his voice.
“Noah is abusing his power and making Daisy do his bidding against her will,” I told him. “I can’t just stand by and allow him to abuse her like this. I mean, look at her, Gavin. She’s serving drinks naked for crying out loud while this asshole flaunts another woman in front of her. It’s not fair to her.”
“It’s not any of our concern,” Gavin said, stepping closer to me and lowering his voice. I realized that a small crowd was starting to form, but I didn’t care. I needed to make things right, “You are my priority, Judy. My family is my priority. Don’t make me drag you away kicking and screaming because I will.”
I knew he was serious, too.

“Gavin, I love you, but I’m not someone who needs protecting. I trained my entire life to protect others, and that’s not going to stop just because I’m pregnant. I know what I can handle, and I know what this baby and my wolf can handle. My wolf would never let anything happen to her pup, no matter what happens. I need you to trust her and the magic inside of me.”
“Trust the magic? You don’t even know how to use your magic yet,” he countered; his words made my chest ache.
“That doesn’t matter,” I said, trying to keep the pain out of my voice. “It won’t let anything happen to me or the baby. If you can’t trust that… at least trust my wolf. You know what she’s capable of. Hell, most of the world knows what she’s capable of.”
Gavin sighed.
“Of course, I trust your wolf… just like I trust you,” Gavin said, his expression softening. “But this isn’t the way to prove yourself.”
“Well this is sweet and all, but I have more donations to collect inside,” Noah said, rolling his eyes. He turned toward Daisy. “Get your ass back inside and serve more drinks. Don’t fuck up again and do what I say next time.”
Daisy’s head lowered, and I could see her resolve cracking as he turned away and started towards the front doors. My anger snapped though, and I stepped in front of him before he could take another step.
Gavin was about to grab me and pull me out of the way, but I held up my hand and a shield suddenly formed around me, blocking him from me. My fingers crackled with magic, and my eyes widened.
“You don’t get to speak to her like that,” I growled. “You marked her and now are flaunting other women around like she’s nothing and treating her like a slave. It’s wrong, and it’s disgusting. Men like you don’t deserve to have a mate, let alone as much power as you do. The Moon Goddess granting you the power to mate with as many women as you want was the biggest mistake of her life, and I’d never understand why she’d do that.”
I heard light gasps from the crowd, which was growing by the second.
Noah’s eyes flashed with fury, and he growled, deep and throaty,
“I don’t care who your mate is, you don’t speak to me like that!”
Noah’s eyes were shining yellow as his wolf surged forward, and this immediately put Gavin in defense mode. He growled as well and lunged towards him in a warning to back off. Even though I had a literal shield around me, he was still finding ways to protect me.
“Stand down,” Gavin growled; he was more wolf than man, and my heart was thudding rapidly
