Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 462

The morning had started off bright and clear, but by mid-afternoon, thick gray clouds had rolled in, dimming the light and threatening a heavy rain.

Madeline left work a lot earlier than usual. She picked up the kids and took them grocery shopping, letting them choose all their favorite things before heading home. With Marian gone, everything fell on Madeline’s shoulders. The kids offered to help out in the kitchen, but she quickly sent them off to the living room to watch cartoons instead.

Back at the Grayson house, dinner time came and went, but the kids were still nowhere to be seen. Julian’s grandfather’s expression darkened as he noticed their absence. “Why aren’t Noah and Oliver home yet?”

Lucy glanced at the clock on the wall. “It’s still early. They probably just want a little more time with Madeline.”

“The forecast says there’s a storm coming,” Christian said. “Someone should go get them soon, before the rain starts. The roads will get slippery. It’s not safe.”

As he spoke, he grabbed his cane and headed for the door.

Lucy realized he meant to go himself and hurried to stop him. She knew if he showed up at Madeline’s, things might get tense.

“Dad,” Lucy called out, “why don’t you get some rest? I’ll go instead.”

He paused, looking at her with an unusual softness. “Your legs make it hard for you.”

Lucy’s gaze flickered down. She looked almost sad for a moment, but then straightened up. “It’s fine, really. I’ll take an attendant and a bodyguard. You go ahead and start dinner. I’ll bring the boys back.”

He understood what she meant. She was worried he’d give Madeline a hard time again.

“Alright then. Be careful. Try not to be out too long.”

“I will,” Lucy said, nodding to the attendant to help her outside.

Half an hour later, their car stopped outside Madeline’s apartment. Lucy sent Madeline a quick message. Madeline had said she could bring the kids over to the Graysons herself, but since Lucy was already here, she didn’t argue.

The attendant pushed Lucy’s wheelchair into the lobby and toward the elevator.

Suddenly, Lucy spotted someone familiar passing by.

“Wait,” she said quickly.

The attendant reached out to hold the elevator doors open, and Lucy motioned to be pushed back out.

Standing just outside was Helene. She wore a long white dress and her hair hung loose and wild around her face. In the dim light, she looked almost ghostly.
