“How dare you!”
A cold, steely voice rang out above the noise, slicing right through the chaos. Instantly, every eye in the room swung to the man who had just walked in. He was dressed in a sharp black suit, radiating an aura of power and class. As he stood in the doorway, the whole room seemed to draw a collective breath.
“Isn’t that Mr. Grayson?”
“It is. That’s really Mr. Grayson! I can’t believe he showed up. This party just turned legendary.”
“Oh my god, he is so handsome. Who was he talking to just now?”
“Wait, did you all catch that name? Madeline… Wasn’t she Mr. Grayson’s ex-wife?”
“Now that you mention it, I remember. He came to her birthday party once, didn’t he? So which one is the real Madeline?”
“Isn’t it obvious? Ms. Ballard must be the real one. Mr. Grayson is obviously here for her. The imposter is about to get exposed.”
The guests grew even more excited, practically buzzing with anticipation, ready for the drama to explode.
“Hold on, look who’s behind Mr. Grayson.”
“Wait, is that… Bradley? The designer who made this dress?”
“Mr. Grayson actually brought Bradley? There’s no way he won’t recognize his own work. Whoever’s wearing the fake is done for.”
Everyone watched, waiting for Madeline’s humiliation. But Madeline just stood there, calm and collected, a faint smile touching her lips as the man walked toward her.
“Is everything taken care of?” she asked quietly.
Back inside, Julian described the scene to Madeline, making her chuckle softly. “Only those two would pull something like that.”
Julian laughed too, gently brushing a loose strand of hair from her face. He lowered his voice. “I’ve got people in the Capital digging into Claire’s recent activities. If we’re lucky, we’ll hear something tonight.”
Madeline pressed her lips together, nodding. “Alright.”
The guests, clueless about what was really going on, watched as Julian walked right up to Madeline. Confused whispers floated through the crowd.
“Did Mr. Grayson get it wrong? The one with her hair up is the fake. The one with her hair down walked in with the Ballard family elder. He must have mixed them up.”
“Mr. Grayson, you’ve got the wrong person,” someone called out. “The woman with you is the imposter. The real Madeline is at the front.”
Julian’s expression turned ice cold. “Do you really think I can’t recognize my own wife?”
