Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 587

Claire’s words hit hard, her tone icy and sharp. Maxwell’s brow furrowed as he faced her. “If I really made a mistake,” he said quietly, “then I’ll bear the cost I deserve.”

“Let go. I can walk by myself.” Claire’s voice was cold, her glare even colder as she pulled away from him.

Shelly had picked these elders for their loyalty. Claire knew trying to get her way with them was pointless. For now, she had no choice but to leave.

Outside, Claire paused and stared up at the grand, imposing Ballard mansion. Her eyes were hard, full of promise. This place would be hers—one day, no matter what.

But right now, she needed to get rid of Madeline. If Madeline wasn’t in the picture, none of these problems would exist. Madeline was the real obstacle.

Claire clenched her fists, dialing her people to come pick her up. Madeline would probably head back to the Capital, so that’s where Claire needed to go too. This time, she wouldn’t let Madeline set foot in the Ballard family ever again.

Far away, in a lavish villa on an unknown island, sunlight poured through the huge windows, casting a warm glow over a woman sitting quietly on the couch. She wore a simple dress, a beige shawl draped over her shoulders. She looked to be in her forties, her beauty refined and dignified, but there was a tiredness in her eyes, as if life had drained every ounce of energy from her.

She gazed out the window like a caged bird, amber eyes dull and empty, her face blank. Her phone buzzed a few times beside her. It was a long moment before she finally reached out, fingers curling around the phone as the screen lit up.

She scrolled, not really paying attention, until a video stopped her. For the first time in ages, something flickered in her lifeless eyes.

Ms. Ballard. Madeline. Her daughter.

The Ballard family had found her daughter.

Tears spilled over as she watched the video. Thirteen years. She hadn’t seen her girl in thirteen years.

Her lips trembled, overcome by emotion.

“Ma’am, are you alright?” The maid and bodyguard who watched over her every day rushed over when they saw her break down.

She didn’t answer, just kept staring at her phone. It was a long time before she pulled herself together. When she finally spoke, her voice was cold and steady. “Tell him to come see me.”

“You want to see Mr. Marshall? Of course. I’ll call him right away. Please wait a moment, ma’am.”
