Although I didn't expect Karina to come visit Hiram, deep down, I knew Hiram was hoping she would.
Kids are like that, always wishing the people they adore and care about could be right by their side. After his grandparents came to visit, he started hoping for Karina, his so-called "mommy", to show up too.
He was still oblivious to the fact that he was neither Neil's nor Karina's biological child.
But in the innocence of his world, even though Karina's treatment towards him could be considered harsh at times, he still found himself heavily reliant on her.
Hiram would occasionally glance towards the door, his eyes filled with anticipation, a sentiment everyone could easily decipher.
Faith, holding Hiram in her arms, tried to divert his attention, "Hiram, I heard Ms. Finch promised to take you to the amusement park. Would you like it if grandma and grandpa joined too?"
Upon hearing Faith's words, Hiram's face lit up with joy, "Yes, yes!"
"Alright, then grandma and grandpa will spend these next few days with you." Faith's demeanor had shifted significantly, and I couldn't help but wonder what kind of internal struggles she had faced recently.
The hospital room was filled with a warm atmosphere, with Ryan, Faith, and Neil around, my presence seemed unnecessary, so I quietly made my exit.
My dad was waiting for me at the main entrance, not having wandered off. I walked up to him and linked my arm with his, "Let's go home, dad."
My dad looked a bit surprised, "Already?"
"Yeah, as long as he's alright," I replied with a smile, feeling content knowing that Ryan and Faith had accepted Hiram, which meant he would be well taken care of by the Whitmore family even in my absence.
Patting my hand, my dad agreed, "Okay, let's head home."
These past couple of months had been tough on my dad, almost constantly being at the hospital, whether it was a local one or abroad. Finally heading home, he was visibly excited, especially when he saw his two little grandchildren, hugging and kissing them with all his might.
Serena and Brandon were already familiar with my dad and greeted him warmly. This picture of family bliss warmed my heart.
However, the serene moment was disrupted by a call from my mom's assistant, "Ms. Finch, you need to come to the office right away!"
The urgency in the assistant's voice set off alarms in my head.
He quickly explained the situation. It turns out my mom had signed a contract for a new cosmetic formula today. The gaps left by the shareholders who had been clamoring to divest could now be filled by Stella and a few others, smoothing things over.
But as soon as my mom had signed the contract, a few major shareholders cornered her, effectively holding her hostage, demanding she admit the contract was a mistake and resign from the company, transferring all her shares.
This was a blatant challenge to the law. The assistant had already called the police, who were now involved.
