The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 111

After some passionate time together, two hours had passed. Cordelia had yet to bring up her request.

After everything, he didn't continue reading, but leaned on the bed, slowly regaining his sanity. Even if they were so alike, Cordelia was not the one in his heart, and he was only fooling himself.

"What do you use for showering?" he casually asked Cordelia.

"I saw a merchandise store on the pedestrian street today. They have this old brand of sandalwood soap, and I bought a dozen or so, quite cheap." Cordelia blushed. She was exhausted, lying in bed, thinking about how to bring up the matter of a raise.

"Did you use this before?"

"Didn't we all use soap for showering when we were kids? Of course, you might be an exception." Cordelia's eyes were starting to fight to stay open.

"Why would I be an exception?" Ronan leaned against the headboard, looking sideways at Cordelia. She seemed lazy and sexy, causing his heart to skip a beat.

"You're rich, you must use high-end products like shower gel, and also, you give such high raises to company employees." Cordelia finally brought up the main point. She mustered her courage. "Today I asked Brooklyn. She got a significant raise. How much can I get?"

Hearing Cordelia mention this, Ronan didn't look as composed as usual. "Are you short of money?"

"I'm not now, but it's a recognition of my abilities. Besides, everyone in the Finance Department got a raise; if I don't get one, others will think there's something wrong with my work. A raise represents your recognition of my work ability, and it's my job security," Cordelia said seriously. She prided herself on being diligent and responsible and didn’t want to give anyone any leverage.

"Aren't I your security?" Ronan retorted.

Cordelia thought to herself, “Don't you understand what marriage agreement means?”

"You, of course, are a factor I consider." Cordelia licked her lips and reluctantly said, "But it's what I deserve. If everyone else gets a raise and I'm the only one who doesn't, what do you think others would think? It's not just about the money. Not giving me a raise is like not trusting me." After speaking, Cordelia turned over.

"How much do you want?"

"Really? You're really going to give me a raise?" Hearing that she would get a raise, Cordelia turned back around, her eyes sparkling.
