The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 230

Jamie hung up the phone, looking around his house. He had planned to settle down in the U.S., but a single call from Thomas crushed his dreams. The same man who sent him abroad was now asking him to return.

"What happened?" Cordelia asked Jamie.

"My father wants me to return home to take over the family business. My career here has just started. It seems our dream of starting a firm together won't come true."

Cordelia was taken aback. "When does your father want you back?"

"As soon as possible."

Cordelia was now in a dilemma. If she stayed in the U.S., she would inevitably give birth to Ronan’s child. Giving birth would mean she couldn't continue her studies. She considered returning home to terminate the pregnancy and then coming back to resume her education.

"Let's go back together. I'll have the abortion." Cordelia suggested.

"Cordelia, abortion can be harmful. Are you sure you don't want to reconsider?" Jamie tried to persuade her.

Every time Cordelia thought of Ronan, she remembered the moment her mother fell from the building. She recalled Ronan's smile, his revenge on her brother, and felt a chill in her heart. Moreover, he was now with Deanna. Their paths seemed permanently diverged.

"No more considerations. I'll have it done."

Thus, Cordelia stayed in the U.S. for another ten days, attending classes. Jamie, during this time, settled his affairs. Then, they both returned home. Jamie arranged for Cordelia to stay in a hotel.

On the second day back, Cordelia went to the gynecology hospital. She had already informed her classmate, Victoria, about her decision.

"How many months along are you?" Victoria asked, touching Cordelia's belly. "You're quite active, probably the first among our classmates."

"Don't remind me. I wanted to study in the U.S., but now I can't continue because of the pregnancy. I've already completed half of my preparatory course. And I'm divorced," Cordelia lamented. Perhaps she was too young now and didn’t have a strong attachment to having children, especially since she had divorced from Ronan, she did not want to give birth anymore. What's the meaning of a single woman dragging a child along?

"Divorced?" Victoria was surprised. "You were with a wealthy man, and you separated so easily? How much did he give you?"

Cordelia urged, "Hurry up. I want to get it done."

Victoria handed her a form. "First, you need an ultrasound to ensure it's not an ectopic pregnancy."

About half an hour later, Cordelia handed the ultrasound report to Victoria. Victoria exclaimed, "Cordelia, you've hit the jackpot! You're carrying twins! Why would you want to abort them? It's risky, and you might become infertile. I won't be part of such a sin."

Cordelia was stunned. Did this mean her dream of studying in the U.S. was over? She thought about how she was carrying Ronan's twins, and he didn't even know. Wasn't that cruel enough for him?
